Introduction
Undying is one of my favourite heroes of all time. He has one of the few greatest team fight ultimates that can literally wipeout the ENTIRE team if used effectively. He can pull off an easy first blood with his amazing first skill with the help of a good lane partner. He can be build as a tank and is one of the greatest gankers.
you will be seeing me mention this word "tank" a lot of times as when you are playing undying, your main objective is to TANK TANK TANK! This explains a lot why undying is pretty much undying! *badumts*
Pros / Cons
PROS
- Undying has a good Int gain allow him to spam his skills without worrying about his mana.
- Low mana cost spells
- A good tanker
- A great team fight ultimate
- Can survive in team fights for a long time due to his skills.
CONS
- Low agility gain (below 1!).
- Slow base attack speed.
Skills
This skill is a great early game harasser and this is what makes you tanky during team fights. For example , if five of your enemies are attacking and you managed to land a good decay you are going to steal 20 strength. This gives you 180 hp and additional 20 dmg . Remember this skill does stack and due to its low cool down you can gain a lot of strength without your enemies noticing . So why is this skill so deadly at level one? When you cast it, not only are you making your enemies take dmg but you are also reducing their strength by 4. Hence you are technically doing an additional 76 damage( although this only lasts for 15 seconds and yes the enemy will get back that 76 hp, so you have to act QUICK if you want that first blood).
LEVELING
Despite it being a great skill, I never max it till late game as when you level it, all it does is extends the time and deal more damage. Hence I find it useful using the points to level other skills.
This skill comes in handy both during and after a gank or team fight. Reason being that not only does it heal allies but deals damage enemies. After a gank if you are dying its wise to use soul rip to heal yourself instead of popping a salve or running back to base to lose that precious farm.
Soul Rip can also be a good finisher for those pesky heroes that manage to run away from you.
Tip: Soul rip does count undying's zombie as a soul so it does damage from the zombies as well. So if your enemy is surrounded by zombies , just put him out of his misery! What it was a mercy killing! Soul rip also heals your tombstone allowing it to last longer in team fights!
LEVELING
This is the second skill to max due to it being the few skills that allows undying to deal a lot of damage and also making him more tankier.
This skill is the reason why you want to hate undying. When this spell is casted ,A TOMBSTONE is erected and a zombie will spawn at a 3 second interval to all nearby enemies. To make things worst these zombies has a great passive. It allows the zombies to slow you down allow undying, the cute cuddly giant zombie to chase you and give you a warm "hug"! Second, it allows the zombies to chase you and make them attack 50% FASTER. When you are below a certain amount of hp this makes the zombies go crazy and chase you at a faster pace. This is the second good finisher for undying.
Tip: zombies do not spawn around towers or Roshan and they can't be controlled either.
LEVELING
MAX THIS SKILL FIRST. This is where undying gets most of his damage ( and kses from ;)) it is also great for initiation as the zombies will slow your enemies down giving you ample time for you and your allies to get to your designated gank location.
Flesh Golem
Aka cuddly giant undying. This skill is something everyone will fear. Not only does it make your face horribly disgusting to look at, it also provides a decent slow and a damage amplification aura which does work for ALL allies. It works for does work for spells so you will hate Laguna blade or lions finger of death even more. I have seen many people use it as a form of escaping however this is wrong. Undying's
Flesh Golem is only and should be used for teamfights because this skill does NOTHING to help you escape. Also all enemies or creeps that die around undying will let undying heal himself. This also makes him awfully tanky
LEVELING
Get this whenever you can. It does great and synergises well with all of your skills.
SKILL COMBINATIONS
Initiate using your
Tombstone. Then run in and use
Decay to steal their strength. Transform into the
Flesh Golem ( try to position yourself whereby all the enemies are in one area allowing you to maximise your plague aura) then try to attack and spam
Decay whenever possible. Try your best as possible to tank all that damage! While your allies attack the enemies. It is advisable to ping and tell your allies to attack when your in position. Lastly use
Soul Rip to finish off enemies, or heal dying allies.
Items
He is meant to be built as a tank. And hence he needs items that make him... Well tanky.
Vanguard
Great for any tank. Allowing to almost block half the damage you are taking during early-mid to mid game.
Hood of Defiance
The health regen and magic resistance will make even more tanky. You may want to turn this into a pipe after that which makes you and your allies even stronger with the magical barrier. Use this when you are in flesh golem form or escaping.
Veil of Discord
Want your spells to hurt even more? Use this. This does stack with the damage amplification from your flesh golem so it's useful.
SITUATIONAL
Blade Mail
Makes you reflect damage allowing foes like Huskar break his own life.
Heart of Tarrasque
If you are farming well and getting a lot of kills. It is advisable to get this if you are going to face plenty of nukers or carries.
Aghanim's Scepter
If you are facing tanky heroes my advice is to get this. This will increase your damage amplification to 35% at max level!
THINGS UNDYING SHOULD AVOID
LIFESTEAL
Undying does not need help from any lifesteal due to the fact that his ultimate gives him the ability to regen health for any nearby creep killed and he has the ablity to heal his own life. Hence I say lifesteal is a no-no.
Summary
I want to thank you for reading my first guide! I hope you will enjoy your undying game and hopefully this was of some help!
