I am new player to this dota 2 game ,Even new player to this genre so i can exactly feel the new players mind set towards this game and their hero picks. I started playing this game 10 months back .I have played so many games (more than 600 games with only 1 hero). What i learned from that is how important item build and skill build for this game.Especially it is very important in pub games where they pick counter heroes ,counter items and importantly we don't mostly have supports in pub game to help carry farm.Mostly end up playing 5 carry so here comes the item knowledge and skill knowledge to make the most out of heroes.Sorry for my bad english .

Strong early game can be super strong early game
Actually strong every stage of game
Ability to regen hp and farm

Mana problems
Low base armor weak against burst damage
Devour : This is used for farming just similar to hands of midas with special ability .This is important and should max first . If you use this skill against neutral creep you can get the neutral creeps special ability.You can get 20 % critical strike,200% critical strike dmg and 30% extra damage to you and your near by allies if you eat Alpha wolf .
Scorched earth : This ability almost like radiance with lesser damage per second ,it will regenerate your HP,and also it provides movement speed this should be max second before taking single point in third skill.
LVL? Death : This is nuke with some high mana cost but very good nuke but should not be taken before maxing 1st and 2nd skill. This nuke will do damage based on max hp of enemy so its very less use in early stages.
Doom : Iconic ultimate when ever possible you should take this skill .
Early Stage :
You should find out Alpha wolf . Just go to jungle and seek out for alpha wolf . If you cant find one then go to lane try to get some experience and last hits . Try to jungle a bit and see you can get alpha wolf. But don't stay in jungle after get alpha wolf.Always use scorched earth to harass your enemy mostly they don't fight you or run after 2 hits and stay behind their tower . Keeping devour creeps make sure you not overriding your alpha wolf's ability with other neutral creep ability . Keep pushing the tower you can get early towers easily .Once you get tower cry to push other lane tower and always keep Tp scroll with you.
Mid game : Before shadow blade you should use ulti to get kill or help the team to kill important targets .initially enemy solo player is high priority target .
In team fights try to initiate fight with shadow blade and take important targets out for team fights . this is important technik you should make the fight look like 5 vs 4 . So they don't fight and gives your team a free tower or they get killed in team fights . you should keeping pushing if can't jungle a bit or push lane a bit . you can use shadow blade to safe farm .
Late game : Most you don't go to late game . Game will end earlier . IF it goes then get HOT or Abyssal blade or heaven's halberd . These 3 items is based on situation . HOT is good against most enemies but lifestealer is different against lifestealer get abyssal or heaven's halberd. Heaven's is good against Phantom assasin instead of abyssal get monkey king bar for evasive heroes like PA,Riki and butterfly heroes . Even in mind your core item is vangaurd,phase boots or mana boots based on mana burners,shadow blad and ,assault cuirass.
Important targets :
Puck,Storm spirit,Anti mage,Miranna ,PA,slark,LifeStealer,Tiny, gyrocopter,riki
Your ulti : can be countered with mechanism,urn of shadows or healers like dazzle ,warlock so in team fight you should take a important enemy player out of team fight .
There is important thing about this build . it should purchased in the same order only heart of tarraque,heaven's halberd and abyssal blade is situational item rest of the items are core items. Even you should upgrade your boots of speed only after Assault cuirass
Items Not to Buy :
Hands of midas : This item will delay your vangaurd and shadow blade result in enemy team mostly had enough farm to take you down And your first skill is for farming so don't need extra farming item.
LifeSteal items : You already have regen ability . It works great you don't need lifesteal item.
Radiance : Most people will laugh at me saying don't buy radiance . Lets discuss this in detail .Radiance is a farming tool so you needs to rush it early . It means you should wait and save 3800 gold without buying other items. If you give this much time to your enemy you mostly end up hating doom . Also its damage is per second based so you have to stay near to enemy to do damage you mostly end up killed by enemy . You can't get escaped by shadow blade due to radiance burst it will show where you are so if they have dust you dead and you cant sneak and initiate important targets like antimage once he see the burst damage he blink away or he activate manta style then you dead with out mana.And in classic pub games where supports try to out farm the carry . Its bad to get radiance .
