Lich is a great support, good at controlling lanes, and is almost completely item independent. With his spammable nuke, auto deny that steals mana, chain ult and armor buff, all of this makes him a great addition to any team.
Pros:
Slowing spammable nuke
Chain ult great for team battles
Item Independent
great at harassing
has an auto deny
mana steal
Cons:
squishy
Frost Blast:
This is lich's single target spammable nuke, it does a burst of damage as well as slows enemies in and around the blast, combined with Sacrifice, it makes for a great harass early game while laning
Ice Armor:
This ability gives lich the ability to buff a friendly heros armor, and also gives the attacker of that hero a slow. The mana cost and cooldown are low so make sure you stay on top of this buff.
Sacrifice:
This is lich's auto deny, while it does not actually count as a deny it does stop the other lane from farming that creep so it should be used often, this ability takes the strength from a friendly creep and converts it to mana, so it is wise to use this ability on the mele creeps
Chain Frost:
Chain Frost is Lichs ult. this skill has the ability to an amazing amount of damage. Chain frost is a frozen orb that bounces around from enemy to enemy up to 7 times. make sure that the enemies are all grouped together and it is also ideal that it is cast when there arent any creeps around because it does bounce to creeps aswell. great placement of this spell can completely wash out the other team in a team fight.
Starting Items:
Since Lich is a support you are going to want to start out getting either wards or a courier, after that you are going to want to get a salve and 4 branches
Early game:
In the early parts of the game you are going to want to get Headdress to start off mech, it is wise to get headdress first because it adds a 1+ healing aura which is great for survivability in the lane, it is also good to get a Bracer for that very same reason. After that you are going to want to get a Magic Wand for some mana and health early game, and Boots of Speed for a little bit of speed boost.
Core Items:
For Core one of the first things you are going to want to finish out is Mekansm, mekansm plays a vital role in team fights and can turn them around very easily so make sure you are eon top of popping it. you are also going to want to get the Drum of Endurance not only because it gives a 10 attack and movement speed on activation, but also because it does 5 passively. It is also wise to get Phase Boots for the movement speed, some people think that power treads are good for lich, but i disagrees, because he doesn't need the strength, or mana at that point in the game.
luxury Items:
for luxury items lich's ult benefits from Aghanim's Sceptre so it would be wise to purchase one of these, Shiva's Guard and Scythe of Vyse are great for the disables furthering lich's usefulness as a support late game. Necronomicon is also a great item if you are looking to push late game with lich.
Early Game:
In the early parts of the game stay in your lane and spam Frost Blast to harass as often as you can, using to Sacrifice to deny and get mana as much as possible, also if you are laning with a carry make sure to let them have all the farm.
Mid Game:
This is when ganking starts to happen, stay with your carry and make sure to keep denying and harassing, if your carry decides to gank go with him to help with the kill, but make sure not to last hit give the carry the xp, when team fights start to break out, keep up with the slows and your ult, just remember ult placement is key!!!! if you have Ice Armor make sure to keep up with that and Meckansm too.
End Game:
Now that everyone is at a high level and your caries should be fed enough, make sure to keep on your mek and ice armor, if you do this combined with great ult placement your team should have no problem winning team fights.
