Recently I had a match where I build Power Treads, then Battle Fury and another Battle Fury, followed by a Yasha and a heart. In this match, I have a necro supporter which keeps my health on top, allowing me to skip Helm of Dominator. I came out pretty well, especially when I dive behind someone and cleave the whole group to death.
I tried it a couple of times and sometimes I get to rush it and dominate and sometimes I can't rush it.

It might be a good pick, but if you're against heavy disablers you're going to be useless, that's why often Black King Bar is bought after Battle Fury.

I do not think it's that good since you get no bkb, if you don't get bkb on pa you are playing it wrong :p Maybe adjust your build to: phase, bf, bkb, bf and than yasha and heart. I lately also started liking skadi on her
As much as I love to stack cleave I don't think it would work as a first and second big item. Even though splashing a 1200 damage crit onto the other team is nice the main perk of the battle fury is eccerate farm and have a ring of health in the first part of the game. If you are fighting a hero like CK or PL late game and one battle furry can't bring them down Is the only time I could see this working.
My lone druid starting items are 12 Iron wood branches, 6 for the hero and 6 for the bear. Even if the bear does not get stats more twigs are OP on any hero.
The reason why Battle Fury is a core item on Pa is due to that fact that she is heavily depended on farm. Battle Fury is basically suppose to help PA farm faster, not help her kill enemies though the damage is nice. Imagine a a x^2 curve, you'll notice as x increases Y increases significantly. The same method could be applied with Battle Fury will help Phantom Assassin farm other items quickly. Such as a Black King Bar, Butterfly, Helm of the Dominator, etc. (Itemization will heavily depend on what the opposing team has)
Suppose that you do get 2 Battle Fury you should be in about the 30-45 minute area... Where are your utility items that will help you survive in the battle to use your two [Battle fury] effectively? What's the point of having all that damage and cleave if you are instantly disabled by Hex or Heavens Halberd? By the time you realize you'll need one you would be spending about another 3-5 minutes for a Black King Bar and obviously 3-5 minutes into a late game is very crucial... That is... if your team opens up room for you to farm.
Anything more than a single Battle Fury is rather over kill because even though they stack, there is no need to farm even faster since your team will most likely require you to be in team battles around the 30-45 minute mark.
Suppose you're doing great on farm and you decide to skip battle fury and make another item, such as a ... Desolator. Hey! That's great you'll be able to help your team alot sooner and be able to pick up kills as long as they dont disable you or if your team will help keep you alive.
(Imagine a y=mx + b, you'll increase over time in gold as x increases and therefore y will increase as wel, but you wont be able to out farm a Phantom Assassin with a Battle Fury.
A good rule to have is pre-determine your two core items for a hero, and adjust accordingly to how farm, fed and how well your team is doing.
I actually think even the main Battle Fury is questionable: I mean, getting a farming item is perfect for her, but I wonder if going for early lifesteal and magical protection wouldn't be better ( Troll Warlord, Ursa, Sven and many other Heroes do so, too). I've already watched a couple of games with a Phantom Assassin with Drums/HotD into BKB, it works pretty well in aggressive trilanes, too.
Basically, I think Mortred is better at single target damage than at teamfight AoE, but that doesn't mean I don't recommend getting a BF at all. But still, I think one BF is enough so that you can focus on magical immunity (BKB) or permabash (Basher); you mainly get it for the farm since her single target damage is already high and she can easily chase those running enemies you aren't hitting.
