So, there must be a French person around here ...

I've been learning French (again) for the past weeks and the lecturer tried to convince us of something I find a bit hard to believe: Apparently, "Comment ca va?" (and other questions with a similar construction, "Comment tu t'appelles?" etc.) are absolutely wrong and impolite French and if you use them, you betray yourself as coming from the lowest of the low social circles.

Is this really true? I learned French several years ago and "Comment ca va?" was an absolutely ok phrase to use if you wanted to ask someone how he is doing. I've never been to France, but I can't imagine that it is frowned upon so much.

I think it is just a really simple way of saying stuff.
For instance if you say to someone in english: who are you? As he is walking into a room that will sound a bit blunt.
It might be the same in french but a bit worse.

One of the french steriotypes is that they are ****s who think their language is the best :P Shhhhh, dont tell anyone.

But the best language is Russian cyka blyat.
