I've created an account just to reply this:
Do you have any friends to play with?
If not, try and get some. Even if that means teaching one from scratch (it'll even be good to be back to basics).
And if yes (or achieved the previous step), have fun with them. Don't think too much on the improvement, just the fun.
Like doing roshan lvl 1. Or putting a chaos inside a naix, inside a spiritbreaker just to see the mayhem.
Think outside the box.
Bottom line, you've been too much inside your comfort zone (and maybe alone).
Search for teammates and start doing things that you usually don't do.
And most important, enjoy yourself while doing that.
Man I also needed a break , got back after one and a half weeks. Trust me , life is much more enjoyable when you do other things too , hang out with friends , study or something alongside gaming.
You can't really give up everything to try and become like baumi or arteezy. They're naturals at video games you're not.
I don't think I should be giving you a lecture on this cos most of my other hobbies also involve sitting in front of a computer.
I've quit this game probably 20 or 30 times in my life. When I have to keep playing, but I don't feel like it I do what Hades suggested: Watch motivational videos of the pros to remind you why you play. There have been plenty of times in which I have found DotA to no longer be fun, but I play anyway. It becomes more of a very large puzzle or math equation, and it simply takes the fun and magic out of the game.
However if you really want to be a great player, you have to just grind through this mindset you're experiencing and push through. All champions get tired of their sport and face hardships. Don't give up on your aspiration to be a great DotA player. This is one of my favorite videos for motivation. :)
If you haven't already, you should surf the forums or find some IRL friends who play DotA, and just play regularly with them. It improves the game experience when you have someone to joke with and who will actually listen to your attempts to communicate. I became a lot more enthusiastic about getting into games after I formed my team, for example.
Hello everyone. My name is Alex, and I am 18 years old. I've been playing Dota for almost 3 years now and since I was 16 I wanted to become a pro player. When I first discovered the game, I didn't even know you could make a career out of it, and I played just for fun, but more as an obsession. I was playing before school, at school and after school every single day. I used to play 11-15 hours/day non-stop and sometimes I even forgot to eat. It was so cool, because I was improving so much and I was enjoying the game so so much...so after I realized I want to become a pro player I trained even more and even better. I treated every game seriously and never gave up until my ancient hit 0 HP... but somewhere along the line something in my heart changed. I think I lost my enthusiasm...and I don't know why. Like..if before I couldn't wait anymore until I started to play in any day, now I can't wait until I stop playing in every day..I'm like: "ugh, gotta play 4 games today..**** it*. AND I HATE MYSELF. Why am I like this? What happened? And most importantly...how can I recover my former self? Sure, maybe playing 11-15 hours/day isn't beneficial to my health, but I should play..idk more than now and not for obligation, but for fun. So... how do I regain my passion? How do I reignite the fire I call enthusiasm? I'm willing to try anything and listen to any advice even if it says to take a break for 1 month or something.
P.S: I'm not interested in any way in answers like: "You're no good, give up dota and do something useful with your life"...you get what I mean. If you want to post an answer like that, don't even bother, and to the people that actually want to help...well really thanks. It means a lot :).
My brother was a professional player and just like you somehere along the line he lost the passion to excel. The reason was simple, The country he lived in didnt not had a stable platform for electronic sports and hence after sometime he realized all his efforts were going into vain. There was no use for him to continue playing.
If you think there is a stable eSports platform in your country and there is something to look forward to then simply aim at an event and practice hard. That will keep you motivated... Talk to the organization that recruits players and get them to spectate your play. That will help you to excel in dota 2 or for that matter any game at all.
