I'm not rank 13 so I don't have ranked matches, but anyways people who would like to help out other people get a good MMR can post tips on this thread. I'll try my best to ensure there are no people giving false/negative tips(Even though I don't know which ones are true for sure. **** me, eh?).
play your best and try to be on a very influencial hero. mostly heroes who can create space and get some kills.
after you get you get your MMR the only thing that matters is winning. if you win you get ~25 points. if you lose you lose ~25 points, really ****ed up.
Play better than the other team. Worry only about your own performance, think "what could I have done differently" after every loss. Blaming allies will get you nowhere. If a bad game puts you in a negative state of mind, take a break before playing again (or play unranked).
People who reference "elo hell" or any MMR (i.e. road to XXX mmr)in their name tend to have negative mindsets and if you can dodge the game, do so. Leaving during the loading phase gives a ~5:00 wait, well worth it to avoid cancerous teammates IMO.
Whatever rating you end up getting, you probably deserve (within +/- 300). Ignore anyone that whines about not deserving their MMR. If you go to the Playdota.com forums there are numerous experiments where players took over accounts with higher/lower MMR and they all ended up at the same place in the end (the player's original rating).
The "play influential heroes" thing only works when you're actually better than most players in the game. The problem is that everyone (especially in lower ratings) thinks they're the best, and when they're not their "high impact" is negative.
Absolutely agree. Work on improving your own play, don't worry too much about the number - getting better will eventually feed back into a higher ranking. Pick the heroes your team needs most (often support), don't just grab a mid or a carry and assume you will do a better job than someone else.
Honestly I would wait to calibrate, I'm winning all my mmr games now but I find people have a higher skill level in unranked compared to 1500. And don't just train up with 1 or 2 heroes, your not flexible. You can train up for a role like support, mid, ganker etc. but probably not carry, everyone want to play carry on calibration
There's no point getting stuck at a low MMR like me and Fleet, wait until you can dominate games with a strong Hero, e.g. Mirana, Invoker, Rubick, etc. by that point your "Unranked Ranking" should be high enough that you land in a decent MMR.
I've started playing ranked matches recently and I went on a massive losing streak which made me end up at around 1400 mmr. If I had the chance to recalibrate I wouldve waited until I had 500+ games. Dont play ranked matches when you hit level 13 you will regret it D:
A friend of mine played ranked matches after he had around 800 games and now hes playing at a 4.5k+ mmr which would take me a year to acheive looking at where i am right now.
would you guys recommend starting a new account to someone like me or should i just stick to this and slowly pull myself up?

also hey guise first post ( ͡° ͡°)
I contemplated this, I think it is far better to just work your way up, that way you will be excactly where you should be as soon as you start not just constantly winning matches as I am now. You will also gain the experience required for higher mmr as you rise. Making a new account is a bad idea.
I may be biased because my steam account has over $200 worth of **** on it but still, don't make a new dota account for mmr.
Thanks for the tips everyone, y'all are simply amazing.
I think it's best that you learn to play at least 3 of each classes, i.e. :-
1. Support/Lane Support
2. Ganker
3. Semi-Carry
4. Carry
5. Bloodstone-Carry
6. Semi-support/Semi-carry(Eg. Sven)
7. Pusher
8. Jungler & Semi-pusher/Semi-Carry/Semi-support
9. Rubick
Lol I guess basically this is just personal preference and how I would like to take it before I start with MMR.
Will keep on checking :D
