I'm trying to find the best way to micro multiple units (PL's illusions, Spirit Bear, etc.). After watching an EG.Universe replay in which he played Lone Druid, I saw that he was (without targeting his bear) calling it in to attack a target while his hero remained stationary. I saw another pro match where someone who microing Lycan's Wolves individually without targeting them.

I'm aware of the 'Unified Unit Orders' option in the interface menu; this is not that. His hero and courier remained stationary while his summoned units went where he clicked. I presume that he was clicking using a modifier (holding shift + right click to move his summoned units).

How did he do it?

Edit: After looking through the interface options and seeking help from the google god again, I'm starting to think that maybe people that are doing this are using a 3rd party program... G15 macros to target control groups really fast maybe? Idk.

If you hit TAB, it should cycle through the units under your control, but you my have bound TAB to something else? the G13 and G15's do really help alot though because you can bind each unit to a different key.

"Select all other units" command.
Go to controls, unit actions, bottom left.

i think what you are looking for is controll groups,
you can set about 10 keys in the settings to control 10 diffrent groups YOU create.
F.e. F1 - F10

to create these groups, simply select the untis you want to bind in a group and press the "ctrl" and the key you choose in the settings menu. F.e. "ctrl - F1"

afterwards after making the group you can quickly sellect all units in this group by pressing the button
F.e. F1

Control groups need to be remaid every game!!
also when used on temporary units they need to be remaid every time the temporary units die.

but for example let's take a Lone Druid and his spirit bear

you make 1 group for his bear alone F.e. on F1
you make 1 group targetting himself AND his bear on F.e; F2
and a possible third one targetting only yourself (but you allready have a key bound for targetting yourself)

this way you can easily switch true your controlled units.

Btw this is also a way to play Meepo

i hope this is a bit usefull

Perhaps, he used "Ctrl + Click"?

You can use this to make all units under your command (e.g. Lone Druid + Spirit Bear) Move/Attack a target, and since you haven't switched your currently selected unit, you can just normal "Click" on the ground in front of Lone Druid to change the order for him alone, leaving the Spirit Bear to continue it's Move/Attack order.

Are there any good guides out there for micro'ing? As a new player i stay away from some of the pet/illusion classes, especially when i found out most have a bounty, eek.

(slightly off topic - but wheres the forum search button? i tried looking for it before i posted this question but i must be going blind!!)
Nerf paper. Scissors is fine.

So when you watch from players perspective, it still doesn't show players with thwir bear selected. However, here is my 101 on micro. I play a lot of ld, chen and now np.
Please note, this is how I do it. Other people may be different.

1) control groups - using control groups is key. I set ctl + 1 as the hero only. Meaning when I hit 1 then move/attack, my creeps stay still.
Control group 2 is just my summons. Meaning if your watching me, I'll select group 2 and attack/move but all you'll see is me standing still while they go
Group 3 = everyone for a full scale assault
Please note - this changes slightly with chen and meepo for split pushing/farming but the idea is the same.1 hero, 2 creep, 3 creep, 4 creep, 5 everyone

2) learn to use your map. There is nothing more frustrating then watching 5 tree ants just stand there whole prophet is on the other side of the map. When split pushing or jungling with creeps across the map, use attack move (a and left click on ground) through the mini map. This is how you can farm 2 camps, a lane of creeps and be in a gank at the same time (in theory)
3) map awareness - especially when you are using mini map control. This is a skill every one should have but it's even more critical if you're running b units across the map from each other.
4) last point - practice. Play some bot games. Or just roll straight into pubs and get ready to get stomped. This is the only way to really learn a hero. Micro is not that hard, just like being a great hooker, it takes practice.

Good luck and hit me up if you want help
