hi, i just realized i got a message a while ago

"You have been placed into the low-priority pool, as you are among the most highly reported players in the DOTA community. Please try to be more respectful of other players in the future to avoid subsequent low-priority penalties."

What exactly does this mean? is it 'low priority' as the opposite of high priority when someone declines a match, or low priority as in you get matched with other people in the same thing?

High prio, like when a person declines, means you will get into a match faster.

Low prio means that you get paired with the scum of dota, you will only get paired with other low prio players, and most of them got there due to feeding. The message you got sounds like you got reported for communication abuse.

I think that answered your question.

However, I have been recently in low prio for 9 matches (thanks scumbag internet), and half of the matches there were very entertaining : they were much more even and fun to play than the ones that I play in RMM, which usually end before the 40:00 mark.

I've never been into low-prio, because you have to be really... naughty to get there. I have no respect for those people (unless it was connection problem).

There are 3 matchmaking priorities:
  • Low-priority - generally for douchebags and people with unstable connection. You will be paired with other of your kind or with players, who has at least 1 player who has low-priority in their party. All of the party members will be considered low-priority for that match.
  • Normal priority - standard matchmaking. If you behave cool, you are there. You will wait for a game around 2-3-4 minutes.
  • High priority - for players, that were in a matchmaking that were cancelled by the other player. Because they were already waiting for their match in normal priority, they are moved into high priority. Waiting for a game will be around 15 seconds - 1 minute.

I ended up in low prio a few times, but never because of reports. Always a pc or connection crash. The most annoying part is that you don't get bp though.

I find the most annoying part of low prio is the russians, and the spanish, and the pudge. It just pisses me off when I have to play with/against those kind of people because of a power failure.
Do as I say, not what I do

Well, they are in normal games, too. :D

The language barrier is something that should be fixed somehow. Even though I know Russian quite well, I simply feel bad for people that don't, because it's like playing completely for your own. There are good Russians players, but most of them are just terribly bad, we have to admit that. Maybe it's because of their population? More people = more possible n00bs.

I once went on EU East servers (EU West was on maintenance) and there were less russians there than on EU West...

Hint: Play easy bot games to get through those low prio games faster.
There's no earthy way of knowing which direction we are going. There's no knowing where we're rowing, or which way the river's flowing. Is it raining, is it snowing? Is a hurricane a-blowing? Not a speck of light is showing, so the danger must be growing. Are the fires of Hell a-glowing? Is the grisly Reaper mowing?! YES! The danger must be growing! For the rowers keep on rowing! And there's certainly not showing ANY SIGNS THAT THEY ARE SLOWING!

Hit that Rep button, you know you want to.
