lads (and ladies)

quick question...

phoenix's sun ray, it does at max lvl 30 damage a second plus 4% of the targets max hp as damage per second , then it says in the description that this scales to double as the duration ticks along...

my question is by double does this mean the base damage double so at the end of the 6 seconds the base damage is 60?

or does it mean the percentage increases to double so its doing 30 + 8% max hp at the end and if so when does that 8% max hp kick in? for the last second so from 0.5 to 0.6 it does 8% damage? or is it 7.99% max hp at 5.59 seconds ?

or is the scale applied to the percentage and the base damage?

No.It scales like this:

Base damage(can't remember it) +1/2/3/4 % of max HP
Then 1/2/3/4 % of max HP.

So it's the base damage that doesn't scale at all (hence base) and the Max HP / sec scales.

I might have formulated wrong the answer above.Who cares, it's morning here anyawy.

are you sure? because it starts off at lvl 4 at 4% and it says it doubles the longer the beam is used?

Yes, it scales linearly. That is, each second its DPS increases by 16.6% each second.

Here are some calculations:
Phoenix vs. Necrophos
Max. HP from Necrophos: 1746 HP (Level 25, no items, stats maxed)
Using Level 4 Sun Ray


Note that Sun Ray does damage every 0.2 seconds and it is pure damage. Each second, Sun Ray's DPS gets 16.66667% higher due to its linearly increase, i.e. the damage gets multiplied by 1,033334 every 0.2 seconds.

Let H := 1746 and let K := 1,033334.

#1: 30/5 dmg + (4% x 1746)/5 = 6 + 13.968 = 19.968 dmg
#2: 30/5 dmg + (4% x H)/5 x 1,033334 = 19.968 dmg x 1,033334 = 20.633613 dmg
#3: 30/5 dmg + (4% x H)/5 x K^2 = 20.633613 x K = 21.321414 dmg
#4: 21.321414 x K = 22.032142 dmg
#5: 22.032142 x K = 22.766561 dmg
....

After rounding, we get following damage for every 0.2 seconds:
#1: 20 dmg
#2: 21 dmg
#3: 21 dmg
#4: 22 dmg
#5: 23 dmg
.....
