I played LoL a bit and I felt like it is really easy to carry with anything.
Just because every hero has scaling doesn't mean they're all carries, its like saying that because I can stack stats on a Lich I can carry Lich. League just has a different form of attributes, until you play in a meta setting you wouldn't understand how a hero is played out correctly. Same with DoTA, you wouldn't realize that Venge isn't a carry unless you've played other heroes or in a competitive setting.
Every character is ULTIMATELY a carry after the first 4 items on the list gotten in order.
Wand
Soul ring
Veil of Discord
Refresher Orb
There is no need for anything associated with mana after this point.
Hell, I don't even get effing boots, maybe just the basic 450 cost boots until those 4 items are gotten, and then I play hella defensively, specially with magnus.
The whole team comes to gank me at a tower? Just ulti and skewer away.... or stay and fight.
But the point is, what these characters are good at is defending and really shouldn't go out in to the open hardly at all... just cast your support skills on carries and MAYBE stay with in range of your carry partner to provide him aura bonus...
but after you got those 4 items, you can sell off the wand and soul ring eventually and replace them with boots of transportation and Eul's for the highest run walk possible
And then the last two slots with 2 divine rapiers...
Why?
Because magnus' natural speed suggests that he wants maxed out run walk speed for some reason..
He is called an Initiator, but is this more or less a Harasser?
There is a short range distance on cleave which makes me think of the roach from starcraft, and how the roach is suppose to be a fat short distance harasser....
Ok, so once magnus has the 2 divine rapiers, the eul's and boots of transportation, why can't he run up and swing his weapon at short range distance to send off a cleave shockwave... and then fall back really fast to support a harassment role?
You are an effing melee character for God's sakes... if any melee carry gets in too close of range of you, he is going to steal all his life back in one effing crit attack... and then your effing done for...
So where is his late game harassment function?
Not only is he melee, he is a strength hero... LOL!
I mean, What is suppose to save him?
Blade Mail?
Perhaps if there were some permanent damage return items to invest in then it would make sense, something with like a thorns...
OK, I'm gonna summarize what the threadposter has said so far.
Dota Should copy Diablo's idea of mages having spells scaling.
The number 3 is the best number because there are 3 primary colors.
12 is better than 9 because it can be divided by 2.
There should be a mode where you can turn your hero into 'mage' mode that turns atk dmg to spell dmg
Everyone in Dota is a carry
Spell Casters that get Wand, Soul Ring, Veil, and Refresher are maxed out in their potential.
Carries farm faster than mages, letting them get items faster.
Heroes should give exp instead of gold
Hood of Defiance previously had no use, and with my changes will.
After getting said 4 items, he doesn't get boots, and plays defensively.
I especially play defensively with Magnus
Casters should play defensively.
Sell the first 2 of the 4 items and get boots and Euls
Magnus' high move speed means he should be built for move speed
Magnus is a harasser
Once Magnus has a full build, he should skewer up to enemy team, shockwave, hit them once, then run away
If a melee carry goes near you, the carry will beat you with lifesteal
Magnus has no late game harass
Magnus being melee and strength makes him a horrible hero.
