I heard that dota 2 could become toxic like this? Everyone seems to be friendly and helpful. Even when I played as TA who I did really terrible and basically feed the enemy pudge. The worst I got was "Don't worry about it." and lead to welcome to Dota you suck and Dota fire.
Another thing I noticed people say supports are the thankless scapegoats. It doesn't seem to be the case for me. Once I got the hang of the game people were thanking for just buying the courier.
It's the nature of all competitive games, LoL has it, starcraft has it, any physical sport has it
The way we react to the competitive nature of these games define what type of player you are, are you the rager? are you the patient one? an elitist? are you actually professional in everything you do? well mannered? etc
In lower level games I don't think they get enough love, in higher level though people see how well you're doing and thank you, one of the other reasons why people want to get better
I find there are a lot of people tired of rude players so if they see someone acting polite they are much less likely to flame them. If I am in-game and not playing support I always thank people if they buy courier and wards since you can only make first impressions once. How ever there is always the people that go by the logic: I am on the internet so I can say and do what ever I want, for those people you just got to put your head down and ignore them.
My lone druid starting items are 12 Iron wood branches, 6 for the hero and 6 for the bear. Even if the bear does not get stats more twigs are OP on any hero.
Glad someone had a nice first experience. Mine was pretty much like that comic!
I think the problem is as someone else mentioned; the games are time consuming. (Minimum half an hour) and it becomes pretty obvious straight away who the winning team will be. (Most of time anyway in publics) No-one wants to be getting pounded into the floor for almost an hour so I guess some people just vent their rage.
Maybe that is the single criticism that I'd have of DOTA.. so far I've seen in all but one of my games, the match is decided within first 5-10 minutes. After that one team is like level 8-10, the other like 5-7. Not fun for the team getting exponentially weaker.
I think that the most critical part is the fact that people are playing a game that takes forever and losing the entire time sucks. Most people hate wasting an hour struggling against a really fed or strong team.
The fact is that there will always be a split between flamers and patient people. Everyone gets angry, the deciding factor is really that some people want to fling it at the people that are doing bad and others (like myself) get angry and say "What the **** you doing?" to themselves but never type anything because we all suck once and when people do that it makes you feel horrible.
I try and avoid the whole situation by playing rounds and when you find someone that doesn't insult you or triess to help or is understanding you add them as a friend and play with them. In that manner you can usually get together a group of respectful people that will help you and not fling wild insults at you.
I've stopped caring about flamers or report them if they annoy me to much. I usually play support and I've seen them get angry at me when I'll play support and end up in 2v5 situations saving the carry but dying in the process. I find most flamers don't know the game well enough to understand the thought behind many moves. Also if someone says they are a new its easier to give them advice to help them.
