"I don't understand, are you trying to insult me? Yes competitive console gameplay, where the winning pots are bigger then any PC sponsored events. How about you stay on topic to the OP, because you look like pretty stupid right now."
You look equally stupid, no one mentioned competitive console scene or competitive play in general until someone attempted to a page ago and that got shot down, so it's you who looks stupid. Another thing to think about is we are talking about macros in Dota a game that people play with a competitive mindset even in PMM not some random console shooter that 90% of the community that plays it couldn't care less if it died a week from now or not and another 8% of the them don't even know there is a competitive scene for that game.
stay on topic please, Dota, macros in dota, scripts in dota, and if they are a problem or not.
thanks
Me mentioning an FPS was relating the use of a learning tool from one genre to another, and it wasn't "shot down", that was lilpr0 being lilpr0. I do find it funny that you had to reply 3 times to get attention because you're obviously desperate in making your opinion of the elite mindset of DoTA by pulling made up statistics out of your rear.
My opinion is still clearly the same, I believe using macros to practice is acceptable. This is coming from someone whose never used any macros, and has played more WC3 than anyone on this site. Practice is practice and that is it, I never condone to using macros in a tournament/inhouse or anything of the sort.

I simply posted 3 times as a mistake instead of editing, get over it. I also never brought any statistics into this i said that a modded controller repeating a clicking action is vastly more reliable and consistent than a players ability, this is not statistics, sorry.

This was never your view or opinion on the matter, you have simply stated that macros and scripts are perfectly ok and that they help new players. Saying you don't condone macros and scripts in tournaments is a relief because we can at least assume now that you understand why and how macros/scripts are and advantage.
practice is practice is true but when you practice with training wheels and you then take them off you'll still fall when required to balance yourself, something the wheels did for you, therefor making any practice done with the training wheels no help at all. (replace training wheels with macros/scripts in case you didn't quite catch my direction.)
my goal in this thread is to make it clear why using macros and scripts shouldn't be tolerated especially in a competitive environment.
The point is that they are bad,it doesn't teach you to play/help you master a hero, but it does teach you one thing:LAZY!
While trying to keeping an open mind on the subject, I keep coming back to the fact that this just gives you an advantage over the opponent that wasn't created by the developers (ie, an unfair advantage).
The idea of a modded controller was brought up, and again... I don't support that argument. Mind you I'm not talking about ergonomically enhanced keyboards/controller, but rather a controller that is modded the a point where it creates status gap between the two players that wasn't deserved. Personally though, this is more of a software issue, and I see it more akin to an aim-bot mod in a FPS shooter.
So, there's my two cents. You can either agree or don't disagree. Jk ;)

Dota 2 is designed to accommodate scripts like these, they're completely legitimate. Most streamers/pros use scripts for quick courier, jumping to rune spots, etc. A lot of you don't seem to realise that both Dota 1 and 2 allow a player to cue actions, and that the delay between each action being executed once cued is completely static; no script can affect it. You can cue Meepo's poofs [any finite list of commands] with one key or with several. Its unlikely you'd ever want to cue more than a few commands though, since the longer your cue is the less chance you have to react to new events with more commands [or to cancel a command altogether and recue it a split second later].
In other words don't worry about stacking commands. As long as the script is not "reacting" to in-game data or modifying commands there's no problem. I have yet to come across a streamer who actually selects courier, presses the key to collect all items, presses the key to deliver and then presses the speed up hot key. I know I'd much rather press 'x', because the things in the game that really matter [like csing, lane control, map awareness, coordination etc] demand my focus. I refuse to spend any of it on stacking commands that will never need to be interrupted. The same applies to Meepo's poof or Invoker's spells.
The command stacking in Dota 2 is far more dynamic than the original DotA. In Dota 2 you can right click an item to execute the commands required to buy all of its components. In DotA you buy each component individually, and without a search function. Stacking the 3 commands it takes to buy Shadow Blade [formerly Lothar's Edge] with one key isn't lazy, its efficient. If you lose out on a few split-seconds because your poofs execute faster than you can cue them, don't blame the smarter player who actually finds that extra time by stacking their commands more efficiently.

+1 Rep for an extremely well-backed and intelligent post.
How do they automate those courier commands?
Just curious, I don't really need it. I can even change some settings w/o pausing while laning. Not a lot though, just some 1 or 2 settings.
