Before DOTA 2, I've played for 2 years non-stop(like about 10+ hours a day everyday), then played EXTREMELY casual afterwards for about another year or 2.
I played DotA 1 for about six years before playing DotA 2.
I don't write guides because I won't feel good about down votes and bad feedback.
How about before you can downvote or upvote a guide, you must put a reason for it. That way people will know if it wasn't just a downvote of jealousy. And if the downvotes are indeed false, people could report false downvotes and downvoters get a warn, however reporting valid downvotes/upvotes gives the person who reported an increase in warn level.
Now if someone put 5 sentences into his reason, only the author should be able to reply and explain his guide. Just mix up the comments section of a guide with the upvote/downvote system.
Now for if you wanted to give the author an advice to improve his guide, the person needs some way to say it but the comments section would be gone, hmmm, so i guess don't remove the comments section and add another tab below the guide instead. one would be comments the other would be votes.

In my opinion, that would be good, give a reason why down vote or up vote, but admins don't really want it. On MOBAFire, you can down vote or up vote, and if you comment, it'll show if you did up voted or down voted. If you didn't it will show only the comment.

Theres plenty of solutions to this problem, every single one of the controversial to a select bunch of types of people.
As a web developer I face this ugly side of humanity every single day lol
