Thanksgiving is upon us, so we're keeping this week's update small. With so many Dota 2 tournaments cropping up lately we've been spending some time expanding our tournament features. Our latest update brings the first of these, adding save/load functionality to private games. Every minute a new save file is automatically created. This happens in the background so you won't notice it. The lobby leader will be able to load any of the saved games from the Game Setup option when creating a new lobby.
Tomorrow marks the start of Dreamhack, one of the biggest LAN events in the world. Their Dota 2 tournament includes both local and international teams, and should make for some exciting games to watch. You can find more information and coverage over at Dreamhack's Website or Gosugamers.net.
No, someone said that betas usually end two months before a games release (which is innacurate) and that valve planned for a February release (which is also innacurate). Valve has said nothing about their release date that I have seen besides the fact that they plan on getting Dota 2 launched quicker, and though some betas close a while before release, look at Battlefield 3, the beta released right before game launch. You need to actually consider why the devs allow a beta. It's for their benefit, not the impatient gamer's. With battlefield 3 they were looking at finishing touches, trying out new features and looking for any obscure glitches. What is Valves goal in this beta, and what have they been doing? They have been releasing small features lately for the players to work with to see how it works. They are adding heroes too, but what they are really looking for is testing on these small little features they add in every update to see how they work on a larger scale with the game. With this, I think the time between beta close and game release will be anywhere from a week to three weeks. See if I'm wrong.
