I don't think you guy should be giving biased advise, it's not for you so don't say a reason because you hate it. No one gives a damn what you hate, this guy is asking for advise and not your personal opinion on the games.
LOL, you're a bit of a d*ck?
because I hate a game suddenly my advice/opinion is biased? did you read my post and think it was biased? ye LOL will be around - counter strike is still around and played competitively - but it's the same thing - it's not the top dog game.
you really are irate - and you didn't give any advice what so ever, except comment on mine?

Well for one your earlier comments are bias'd no doubt since you wrote you don't know anything about LoL so don't be too mad about what he said. I'm not defending anyone here but you were bias'd =/
@OP
If I'm reading this correctly there was a time during February that your friends didn't play LoL so I'm going to assume this is going to happen much more frequently. Personally I'd stick to playing DOTA and get better at it, I barely play LoL anymore since I no longer find it fun. Solo queuing in ranked games has not been good unless I play Vayne or AP mid but both these roles are insta-locked. Lost more games than won since it literally does not matter if you win your lane, if the other 2 lanes are dominated and they're ahead in gold by the 12 minute mark, it's an almost definite loss.
DOTA 2 is much more action packed and at competent skill leveled games, very active and the tide can turn at any point, for example this game between Fnatic and EG
I'll on occasion play LoL with my friends but that's happens once in a blue moon since no matter what I'm going to do I'm never going to get as excited or thrilled as when I first started playing LoL.
I've played DotA since a bit before 6.48 and onwards for about two years until I discovered WoW. Afterwards played DotA on and off with months inbetween until I got DOTA 2 then played it almost any time I get the chance to when I'm not working (or when my soul has been released from Borderlands 2.) It's much more rewarding when you play skillfully and you're not boggled down in both public and competitive scene by a companies cash system so in the long run you're going to enjoy DOTA 2 much more. (only my opinion and you can check my bio)
With LoL, played for a little less than one year and I rarely play alone unless I'm on a losing streak in DOTA. These days I just update LoL incase I feel like playing Morgana but I'm frustrated with how the overall design of the game is. Honestly the money you spent in LoL, IMO, is really the only reason you're still playing LoL, that's what I thought for about a month or two before I nearly stopped playing LoL.
Hopefully my experiences can help you decide on what you want to stick to playing and it's not like you're leaving your friends... unless they're only eFriends o.o!
i think ultimately - it is down to what do you enjoy more. If you feel the pressure from the online world to play dota2, and only play it for that reaston - play LOL. because you have your friends there and enjoy it.
if they're online buddies, it's not the end of the world, d2 has plenty of online buddies ;-)
but if you want to play as a serious/going on pro - def Dota2, it's like trying to decide between going pro on Counter strike and modern warfare (or whatever the latest FPS is at the moment) if you know what I mean. A year from now they might make a LOL 2, and dota2 will be out dated.. who knows ;)

There's no point in making a League of Legends 2, it'd be a waste of time and money.
At least, that's my opinion. They make a lot of money out of skins, bundles, boosters and other stuff.
They can improve gameplay, graphics, anything they want in League of Legends by patches.
DotA 1 couldn't be improved very well on Warcraft III, because stuff were limited to the resources of Warcraft III.
Now, DotA 2 is unlimited, everything is possible, it's a full game, not a map anymore.

Well, I really depends on what you wanna play. But if you more competitive, play Dota. If you are more casual, or like to play with friends, play League of Legends. I currently play both, and I really enjoy both games. Probably because I'm not in to super competitive gaming yet (I'm kinda noob :3) but again, it's truly up to you, and which game you prefer to play.
Also, play a game because it's fun. If you want to play just to win money, scale higher up in elo, you'll get stressed and stuff, etc. unless you really want to be a top gamer like TSM or Navi.
First off, I am simply going to state this thread is not for any debate of what game is better and why, simply stating my situation and asking for opinions.
I used to play the original DOTA, then when HoN came out in beta I started playing that. I quit that to switch to LoL to play with friends, then back to HoN, then quit both to play DOTA 2.
I then stopped playing that ~February because none of my friends play it and I had invested some money into League. Now, I enjoy League and DOTA2, and not many of my friends okay DOTA 2. I have invested a good amount of money into League over the years, and unless I could sell my account I wouldn't want to leave that.
Tl;dr trying to decide if I should leave League and all my friends to play Dota 2.
Much love,
Relyks
you have the answer yourselves.
you want to dedicate? play dota2. LoL is a game that you play with your friend, just play it when your friends are around.
Dota2 has more advance in-game mechanic, it is harder to master. The price money for dota2 is more attractive than lol if you want to ever competition. In the end, you have to choose which 1 you enjoy more.
I had a similar issue like you, although not technically speaking, DotA 2 or LoL. It was Guild Wars 2 when it came out. I pretty much quit Dota for a week or so, but something was always hanging around the back of my head: the call back to Dota.
The fact that it is extremely satisfying to pull off an amazing kill or escape, or even support a team till they are the best they can be, it makes Dota worth the play and dedication. So unless you have not experienced a similar situation, then you should stick to Dota. Because once you reach that part of playing, there's no turning back. No other MOBA games will give you that satisfaction. I know because I've played LoL and HoN as well as the original Dota, so what I'm saying is not bias.
I now play a bit of both games, but dedicate myself more into Dota because I am still looking for that one game where I can keep watching over and over again to see how I managed to pull off such a great play.
The whole "I'm not going to play with my friends thing" is stupid and for some reason only applies to LoL. Sooner or later one of your friends will play with you and it'll follow through, if they don't want to play DOTA 2 then find others who will play with you. My IRL friends don't play DOTA 2 so I find people to play with, either the DOTAFIRE community or my EXTREMELY SMALL BASE OF FANS from my youtube channel.
