First off, I am simply going to state this thread is not for any debate of what game is better and why, simply stating my situation and asking for opinions.

I used to play the original DOTA, then when HoN came out in beta I started playing that. I quit that to switch to LoL to play with friends, then back to HoN, then quit both to play DOTA 2.

I then stopped playing that ~February because none of my friends play it and I had invested some money into League. Now, I enjoy League and DOTA2, and not many of my friends okay DOTA 2. I have invested a good amount of money into League over the years, and unless I could sell my account I wouldn't want to leave that.

Tl;dr trying to decide if I should leave League and all my friends to play Dota 2.

Much love,
Relyks

Why can't you do both, when your friends want to play, play LoL. When you want to play and they don't play Dota 2?

That is true. But I would like to "dedicate" myself to really learning and getting really good at a game and trying to play professional.
And there's some new weird rule that riot is enforcing. If you're one of the professional players (i.e. the professional teams that they will be playing to play), you can't play any other MOBA games.

Anyways, to give you a sense, right now I'm probably average at DOTA 2. When the beta came out, I had just came off of a HoN/Dota 2 "streak" and hopped right into DOTA 2 and was doing well. Now i'm probably average, if that.

League's elo rating system works like this.
Bronze: Between 0 and 1149 (Team: 0-1249) (Top 100%)
Silver: Between 1150 and 1499(Team: 1250-1449) (Top 40-50%)
Gold: Between 1500 and 1849 (Team: 1450-1649) (Top 5-10%)
Platinum: Between 1850 and 2199 (Team: 1650-1849) (Top 0.5-1%)
Diamond: 2200 and above (Team: 1850+) (Top 0.05-0.1%)

I'm at 1560 elo atm. The season is going to end in october and the new one will start, and if I win all my placement matches I could probably place myself in mid 1700s. Idk.

I'll just have to think.

Well, let me ask you this, which do you like to play more? I think it should ultimatly come down to that.

LoL would be perfect for playing with friends due to the option of unranked matches. This is assuming that your friends are not at the same skill level and would bring your elo down. Dota 2 does not have the option of unranked matches and it would seem to be all serious gameplay due to every match counting, and this can be stressful.

I would say that if you like LoL more go with that because you can split the competitive ranked scene and the casual scene when playing with friends, and it would seem that you are already pretty good at the game.

If you plan to be professional than you should do what you enjoy and not what you are better at, because in time you can be good at anything.

I don't know anything about lol - and the ratings system it has (i have heard of it) cuz I think my bro is a platinum level or sumet like that (1900)

you can invest more time into LOL now - but by the beginning of next year when all D2 heroes have been released, plus some new ones probably (maybe), new items, more custom maps. and importantly more stable dedicated client, dota2 will be much bigger than LOL, MUCH bigger. So your LOL time will pay off for now - you'll play with friends and enjoy. but by early next year the game will be obsolete - it's just the natural life cycle of the world haha.

there will be more tournements, teams, and probably a stable ranking system like LOL.

I'd suggest you to play DotA 2 instead of League of Legends, DotA 2 isn't just a game, it's an e-sport, League of Legends is just DotA for kids.

If you like both, play both, but I quit League of Legends because of Riot and the community.

I don't think you guy should be giving biased advise, it's not for you so don't say a reason because you hate it. No one gives a damn what you hate, this guy is asking for advise and not your personal opinion on the games.

Dota 2 probably will be bigger than LoL in the competitive scene, but that doesn't mean that LoL still won't be big and isn't a good option for going pro. LoL will still be around for a long time and it's not going away.
