Lore: Long ago, in the Valley of Jewels was an impoverished town devoid of resources, that is, until the discovery of the valuable crystals that were unearthed by an earthquake. The town grew in size, and its citizens grew in number, becoming wealthy and rich. With so much money on their hands and a lot of spare time, many spent these days of leisure on insignificant activities. But one of the men, Lustrous, observed an interesting property of the crystals, and began experimenting, determined to unlock the magical crystal's power.
Years have passed, and all have heard of the man that spent most of his time in his private quarters. Not many are sure of what he is doing, but the bright sparks of energy that occasionally shot out of the house was a sign that he was yet to be deceased. Inside, Lustrous had mastered the magical arts (from books he had "borrowed" from the town library) and can channel them through the crystals to great effect.
One day, as Lustrous was at work at his desk, he felt a tremor. His fears were realized: another earthquake! He emerged from the house for the first time in years, greeted by the panic of the townsfolk and their screams of terror. Hearing a crumble, he looked up and saw a chunk of the valley breaking up and falling upon the town. With crystals and wand still in hand, he tossed a crystal in the air and accurately channelled a beam of light through it. Though small, the ray was empowered by the crystal and a loud boom was heard, followed by a shower of dust. At that point, the earthquake had stopped.
With songs of joy and praise, they lifted Lustrous up into the air, celebrating his seclusion from the world and his mastery of magic, for he had single-handedly saved the town from their demise.
Tis the tale of Lustrous, the Prism.
Q: Luminous Bolt
Type: Target-Unit
Affects: Enemies
Damage: Magical
Shoots a bolt of light at the target unit, dealing damage, silencing and revealing the target for a short duration.*
- 600/700/800/900 range
- 90/150/210/270 damage
- 0.8/1.6/2.4/3.2 second silence
- 400 vision radius for 3 seconds
- 95/100/105/110 mana cost
- 15 second cooldown
The power enhanced by the crystals have debilitating effects on enemies.
Notes:
*Means that he has an area of regular vision around the target for a while.
W: Crystal Hex
Type: Target-Unit
Affects: Ally or Enemy
Slows the target and gradually turns it into a glass statue. This causes it to be immune to magical damage. While in this form, any of the Prism's spells targeted at it will deal damage and refract to all enemies in the area.
- 500 range
- 10/15/20/25% slow increase per second for 2 seconds
- 1.5/2/3/4 second hex duration
- 90/100/110/120 mana cost
- 26/22/18/14 second cooldown
All who oppose Lustrous are cursed to become as brittle as glass.
Notes:
E: Reflective Barrier
Type: Target-Unit
Affects: Enemies
Lustrous puts a shield on his ally that reduces the damage of nearby enemies when the target is attacked. The damage reduction debuff can be stacked indefinitely.
- 600 cast range
- 7/10/13/16 damage reduction per hit in a 450 radius
- 5 second debuff duration
- 5 second shield duration
- 70/80/90/100 mana cost
- 18/16/14/12 second cooldown
The crystals absorb energy when hit, crippling those who strike it.
Notes:
R: Focus Ray
Type: Target-Point
CHANNELING - Lustrous concentrates ambient light into a powerful beam, dealing great damage per second but costing mana per second. Right clicking from the ground in this state will change the direction of the beam.
- 1500 beam range
- 50/75/100 damage per second
- 30/50/70 mana per second
- 10 second cooldown
R (when skill is active): Cancel Focus Ray
Stops the channeling.
The same ray that was used to save the valley mows down enemies in its wake.
Notes:
This hero has a lot of synergy between his skills, and as such, I will write down the 'combos' that can be performed.
Possible Spell Combinations:
Mass Silence
Crystal Hex + Luminous Bolt
Locking down an enemies with Crystal Hex first, then using Luminous Bolt will damage and silence all nearby enemies, good if you need a crowd control skill (something that Lustrous is lacking in).
Redirection
Crystal Hex + Reflective Barrier
By casting Crystal Hex on an allied hero, you are basically screaming "Hey, over here! Attack him!" But no need to fret! Since your ally is magic immune for the duration, and enemies would be using attacks to try to bring him down, Reflective Barrier will quickly deplete all their attack damage, leaving your team at an advantage after your teammate unfreezes. It is recommended that this is only done on tanky heroes like Axe, as some enemies deal too much damage in 1 shot to care and can still bring down squishy heroes. Speaking of Axe, his call works well with Reflective Barrier as well.
Light's Reckoning
Focus Ray aimed at Crystal Hex target
When light passes through a prism, it refracts many directions. Similarly, a Focus Ray shot at a Crystal Hex target will refract in all directions and deal damage to everything (contrary to the combo name :P). Remember: positioning is key.
This hero focuses on crippling enemy heroes and getting into a good position to potentially deal great damage to all enemies with Focus Ray. Crystal Hex is the core ability here, as it lets his single-target spells hit multiple targets, increasing his effectiveness. Luminous Bolt is a short but effective silence, just enough to stir chaos in the enemy. Reflective Barrier can be put on a target to basically negate multiple enemies' damage in the lane. By drawing the aggression of creeps and letting them attack you (or your ally) while you have the buff on, it will reduce every nearby enemy's attack drastically and it can break great harassment battles (eg. Sniper vs Pudge lol). These spells make him an excellent lane partner, and has great synergy with other heroes that let them stomp the game. Please leave some feedback on this hero :)
Heh, wow. I actually thought of a concept like yours about 3 weeks ago. The abilities are definitely different, but I was thinking of the same refraction techniques. I'll post it on the board tomorrow if you want to take a look at it. Gr8 concept by the way!
By refract you mean it will refract damage to area nearby and not the effect? Then why the **** not make a ult that DO reflect all effect to area nearby and can be cast by any allied, like, place a prism do so that last for several sec, hm?
