Hey everyone, so I have been playing dota for almost a year now, and I've learned quite a few things. One thing I haven't done yet (and have been dreading) is playing solo ranked, but I really feel like I'm at the point where I can perform very well in my skill level. So going into this blind pretty much, I wondered if anyone could give me some tips for the mmr grind? Anything would be useful to know, what should I do differently than I do in normal pub games?

I want to try and land myself in a skill level that I am comfortable with if possible, but maybe not too high ;)

Thanks!

I don't enjoy solo ranked game at all. Either I get a somewhat decent team that I can work with which almost always results in a victory or I get idiots/trolls in which case it doesn't matter how hard I try. Playing 1v9 is simply impossible.

I've just started my own solo ranked MMR adventure myself! It's... hmm...

I think the main thing is to remember how big a deal morale is in a game with complete strangers. I don't know your all chat/team speak habits, but it's super important to make sure you're always polite and communicative, I find. Jumping on a player for making a mistake leads to that person hating the team, which means they might want to just 'get it over with' and... you see what I mean.

Also buy wards. Wards win wars!

I've been entertaining the thought of starting up the daunting MMR quest myself since I stop playing mmr after getting myself back up to 1k. Maybe once I have a few more games under my belt...

If no one else on your Team Picks Supports, and you have a Hero like Lifestealer/ Ursa/Lycanthrope who lvl1 Jungles, then don't Pick Support. Pick a Solo Offlaner. You can still buy Courier and Wards, but it's more important that you get Farm and try to have a big impact in Teamfights, you won't be able to do that as a Hard Support.

Also, make sure someone on your Team picks Sniper or Troll Warlord at the start, gmae is much easier when someone on your team has a Hero that's hard to lose with (don't expect much from them though ._. )

if they can play the hero because a friend of my in low mmr (700) had a sniper who only had boots and a wraith band at the end of the game.
In love with the random button

Yup, Sniper is OP now but only if you do indeed know how to play him for the start, not for newbs.

Bunkansee, I've been trying ranked now for the first time too, and I can tell you one thing for sure: if you play seriously at pubs, it will make no difference to you, it's the same. There is in the same way a 50% chance people will be trolls who random and do stupid things while flamming everybody, or they will actually communicate with you, try strategies and praise the team. Depending on which case it is, just laugh and do your thing or communicate and praise too :)

Oh, and pick supports, of course. As in pubs, people tend to dislike that role and completely ignore the need for every type of vision, while being glad from the start if you go "I'll support" and just do your job. Go Crystal Maiden and wreck ;) good luck!
