Nah Salawayun Blink Dagger is almost always necessary because of its utility in initiating and mobility. I often blink and use other skills like Gush and Anchor Smash to gank or chase.

I'd favor the second choice for the skill build more rather than the first one, personally I'm using a generic variation of getting 1st-Stats-Ultimate early on as to help during the laning phase by ensuring good mana supply as well as some extra beef. I'd also say the same on the item build, though for me the 2nd choice would look more of an extension of the 1st one's core but I would drop the Blink Dagger. Leviathan, IMO, is far greater as a team breaker rather than being a pure initiate, that ravage is best used once the enemy nearly throws everything in their arsenal, say once they're set up, although a tactic like this one would have great effects once you're able to grab that Pipe to protect your team from all that Nuke.
And oh regarding your item choices you would want to drop that Stout Shield as the damage block would not stack with Kraken Shell.
