"If you ask me, life is all about who you know and what you can find. When you live up in the Riftshadow Ruins, just finding food can be tough. So you need to cut corners, you need to scrounge, you need to know your strengths. Some of the beasts up there can kill you, so you need a way to trap the weak and duck the strong. On the upside, the ruins have history, and history is worth a lot to some people. There used to be a palace there, where they had all these dark rituals. Bad stuff. If you survived the ceremony, they would shatter a crystal and split your soul into pieces. They made great art though! Sculptures and such. Let me tell you: sometimes you stumble onto some of those old carvings. Take a pack full of those to town and sell them, then get yourself food for a few weeks. If luck is really on your side, you might find a Riftshadow crystal. Get it appraised and start asking around. Someone always knows some crazy fool looking for this kind of thing. If all else fails, sell it to a Magus the next time one's in town. They love that stuff. Still, whatever you do, be careful handling those crystals. You do not want one to go off on you. It really hurts."

Pros / Cons

Pros

-Can snowball out of control
-Great nuker
-Can carry but is mainly a semi-carry
-Can level faster than any hero
-Amazing farmer

Cons

-Usually main target in team fight
-Hard to micro
-Not a hero for new players
-Takes A LOT of practice to play decently
-Earthbind can be hard to land

Early game

During the early game Meepo is an easy target to gank. This can be avoided with the proper map control or map awareness. Never forget that your clones have a 1.6 strength gain, this makes them really squishy and easy targets to kill. To avoid feeding be cautious during the first minutes of the game or until you get your Aghanim's scepter.

Blink or Aghanim First item?

If you decide to max Geostrike over Earthbind try picking up a blink dagger. It will be easy to pick people off and secure kills.

IF you max Earthbind pick up and Aghanim, because you will need an initiation tool when you try to pick someone off.

Both builds work and both are situational, my personal preference is going Blink Dagger first, since I like to have some early aggression.

Always try to get Boots + Blink and Scepter before the 20 minute mark. This is easily accomplished by farming the jungle and lane.

Geostrike

Skill building Meepo comes down to preference. Taking an early level of Geostrike and having 1 level on every ability by level 4 can be beneficial. An early level of Geostrike will also make last hitting an easier task and the slow will help securing kills.

If you decide to max Geostrike over net pick up a blink dagger as a first item after boots since it will be more beneficial than an Aaghanim's Scepter.

Abilities

Earthbind

Tosses a net at the target point, pinning down all enemy units. Earthbind prevents invisibility, blink, and interrupts channeling.
Cast Range: 500/750/1000/1250
Radius: 220
Duration: 2
20/16/12/8 (cooldown)
100 mana

Poof

Drawing mystical energies from the earth, a Meepo can teleport to another Meepo or itself after channeling for 1.5 seconds, dealing damage in both the departure and arrival locations.
Cast Range: Global
Radius: 375
Damage: 80/100/120/140
12/10/8/6 (Cooldown)
80 mana

Geostrike

Meepo enchants his weapon to deal damage per second, as well as slow the movement speed of the attacked unit. Geostrikes from multiple Meepos and illusions stack.
Damage per Second: 7/14/21/28
Move Speed Slow: 5%/10%/15%/20%
Duration: 2

Divided we stand

Meepo summons an imperfect, semi-autonomous duplicate of himself, which can gain gold and experience as he does and shares his experience and abilities. However, the clones cannot wield any items but the boots that Meepo himself wears. If any of the clones die, they all die. Increases the speed at which you respawn. Upgradable by Aghanim's Scepter.
Number of Meepos: 2/3/4 (3/4/5)*
Respawn Speed: 10%/20%/30%
Meepo illusions fully benifit from the 100% shared stats Aghanim's Scepter provides.
Adds an extra Meepo. Grants 100% shared attribute percentage.
Do I know you?

Play Style

Play Style

There are many ways to play Meepo, that's a fact. Contrary to popular belief he is not a hard carry. certain heroes like Void can out carry him. Items like the Blink Dagger can turn the way he is meant to be played. By buying a blink dagger you should focus on picking of people that are AFK farming. If you decided to skip the blink dagger and go for another item, you can play him as a team fight machine. With or without the blink dagger he can always be a good hero to pick people off guard, yet the blink dagger makes that play style a bit more effective.

Tips

- Meepo's gold is best spent on items which benefit all Meepos. This means aura items and attributes. Be advised however, that aura items can be bought by your allies and you will benefit from them just as well, so it's usually better idea to buy attribute-enhancers (For example, Ethereal Blade will give you so much more than Assault Cuirass in terms of damage and attack speed while giving benefit of intelligence and strength as well as ranged nuke which also amplifies Poof damage) and utility items like Blink Dagger or Scythe of Vyse, which can be very useful for ganking.

- In order to maximize the effectiveness of his clones, don't always group them up; you can split them up (preferably in two groups). In ganks, this can mean that one group of Meepos can initiate a fight, while the other can wait and ambush. Also, splitting them up to groups can make Poof an effective escape mechanism, so long as your secondary group is safe. NEVER TRY TO GANK WITH A MEEPO ARMY, JUST BY WALKING UP TO ENEMIES WITH ALL 4 or 5 MEEPOS!!!

Team Play / Enemies

Any hero with mass AOE or control abilities like Tusk or ES are good with Meepo.
Enigma also works wonders with Meepo since you can poof on top of a Black Hole.

You should look out for heroes like ES and Lich since they pretty much your worst enemies. Also, heroes that can cancel your Poofs can be annoying. Examples being silencer or Lion.

Not every game is good for Meepo. Meepo is easily coutered, so take a good look at the other team first
Meepo is highly vulnerable to a few things, like:
- High Damage nukes
- Long AOE disable
- Earthshaker and Lich can both make you cry.
- Also anything that can interrupt your poof.

If the opponent team doesn't have one of those thing, you can pick Meepo. Don't pick Meepo just at the start of the game, wait for the other team to pick their heroes, otherwise the other team can counter you easily

Starting Items

Starting Items

Starting items for Meepo can vary. If going mid you should pick up a stout shield and build into a poor man to have better lane sustain. If you decide to go for tranquil boots you can also start with a ring of protection to get tranq boots faster.

Bottle should be picked up in almost every game if you decide to go mid since it will increase your ganking potential with the proper rune control.

Taking tangos and a healing salve is almost always crucial since meepo is easily harassed during the early stages of the game.

Getting first blood

By level 3, you already have your first meepo clone. This is a great tool to kill a squishy hero and get a decent lead in your lane. If you are going mid try landing a net at the enemy hero, get near him, attack him once or twice to apply geostrike (if you decide to get an early level of Geo) throw the second net and simply poof both of your meepos on top of him.

This combo can destroy squishy heroes in the early stages of the game. Heroes like storm spirit can get nuked down by this combo.

Control groups

Control groups are different for everyone, yet listing my personal favorite control groups may help you.

I use my 1 key for the main meepo.

2 key for every clone

3 key for every single meepo

4 key for the first two Meepo clones.

5 key for the last two meepo clones.

6 7 8 9 keys are used for individual meepo clones. (THis is really good to get your farm going and to spread meepos if needed in case of Lich's ult.)

Blink Poof Combo

Lets be honest this combo is not easy to pull off, yet it can be really effective to catch people off guard and to wreck during team fights.

There is no real way to explain it without a video but I will do my best.

What I personally do to Blink Poof is simple select every meepo clone with my 2 key as i mentioned in control groups and start spamming Poof into the tab key + click. Afterwards I select my main Meepo and poof to my destination. Don't forget to click where your main Meepo will land, never click on of the main Meepo.

You could also do Tab - W - Click. It all comes down to preference

It takes A LOT of practice to get this combo right, but it is worth it and you should try it.

Practice in Bot games and then move on the real deal when you have a basic idea on how it's meant to be done.

Ethereal Blade

The ethereal blade pick up is kind of a weird item to get on Meepo. It can really serve its purpose securing kills yet it can be tricky to use. When the target is under the effect of the Eblade he will take more Poof damage making the Eblade a strong item to pick up if you think you can kill someone with simply 2 or 3 Meepos since they will take more Poof damage. WIth the Eblade you can have 2 Meepos farming and 3 killing a hero, for example. This is also hard to do since it requires a lot of micro but with practice it can be done.

The slow also helps to secure kills.

Aegis

Aegis is really good to have on Meepo since you usually are the first target in team fights. Its also good because when you die and respawn 5 seconds later, all your Poofs will be back up and you can start nuking down people.

Proper micro

To be efficient with Meepo, proper micro is required. Most of the time you should send at least 1 or 2 meepos to farm the jungle while the main one sits in lane. This will allow you to get a higher rate of xp per minute and gold per minute. While doing this you also increase your snowball potential since you out level the enemy team. If you manage to get kills in the early game, try to farm up to level 25 by the 30 minute mark.

Pubs / Ranked

Picking Meepo in pubs is nit a big deal once you get the hang of the hero. People dont usually counter or even focus him in fights, yet you can still feed and fail with the hero.

Picking him in ranked can be more tricky since people tend to pick counters like Lich. People in ranked tend to shut down Meepo in almost every game by ganking or denying him farm. This can really set Meepo back and that can be a good blow to your team. Unless you know how to play the hero on a high skill level do not pick him in ranked.

Good luck, Have fun

Well that is all, there is nothing more to say really. Meepo is a hero that you really need to practice to play properly. Trying different item builds is also good on Meepo since he is such a flexible hero. This is the end to the guide. I hope I did a decent job since this is my first guide here in Dotafire. Good luck, practice your Meepo and see you in matchmaking.

PS. This is supposed to be a quick guide not a detailed guide. GL HF

With some practice you should look like this:

HAVE FUN!
