Techies is given such a bad rap in ranked but it can be played very effectively with the right attitude, play style and communication. Techies is at his best when he is unpredictable and is helping rack up the kill count with his lane partners. I prefer to play a dual off lane with someone who can easily stun to set up for blast off and mine follow up. I play him as a right click hero at the end with his +250 damage at level 25 the other team rarely expects you to do that kind of damage.
I almost exclusively play techies off lane. You are going to be against the other teams safe lane carry which is why you will want someone with you who can stun and follow up. I first TP into lane and set up my initial mines with the two clarities. You can get about 7 mines down before the creeps arrive. Hide the mines in the trees and by the secret shop. Harass the carry and support with your lane partner until you gain level 2. You will be burning through their regen as they run into mines early and you potato gun them down. At lvl 2 you set up for a blast off. Hide in the trees and either initiate with the blast off or wait until your lane partner can stun. If you have the mana also plant a mine when you land. You should be able to easily pick up first blood and/or their support if you can get them both in the blast. Keep this up to keep their carry down. You will end up killing yourself to get kills but this is ok.
I always max my red mines before I get remote. Place them in close proximity where the enemy will likely try to gank or escape such as the side shops, trees on the interior of the lane, and by jungle creeps. You will pick up kills fast if you can spread them around. At around level 7-8 you can hop to other lanes to beef up their side shops and trees to prevent ganks. Blast off is your friend and can do significant damage and silence the enemy to prevent escapes.
