First of all ward the small camp to avoid pulls, try to hide the ward.
Keep the distance if there are more than one support helping the carry (trilane). Otherwise you can go in and farm, you will have 8 tangoes and a salve so dont be scared to harass the enemy carry with auto-attacks.
When you get enough level you can kill them or help other lane tping (counter gank).
Remember to save your mana and do not spam your skills at firsts levels, you will need the mana later.
Try to be in most of the fights, help your team and farm anything you can. At this point you will be in the process of making your bloodstone, so dont be greedy and dont try "flashy" things. If the game is going well for you and you already have your bloodstone, you can make a cheap item like blademail or force staff (depends on the game).
When mid game is almost over, you will have enough gold to start another item, you can go for many items here.
The standard item here is shivas, but with the new aghanim (6.82) its a good choice too. If your team have enough damage you can go for shivas (against physical dmg) or vyse (against blinkers/escape heros), otherwise go for agha and you will have a lot of damage and a decent boost to your life/mana.
Timber is pretty useless against silences. If there is a lot of silence in your game or heavy magic heroes, you will need BKB. Other situational items are blademail and pipe, to do damage against burst or to mitigate magic damage. Force staff can be a good choice if your team lacks mobility to avoid things.
