Nice guide, but, try going shadow blade(for escape and ganking) and then D.lance, d.lance is very cheap considering the stats it gives, then u'll be playing safe, hitting from away and with a escape mechanism. Now feel free to go for your aghanim and all other stuff :p
Sorry if i'm talking ****, but its my point (considering i'm not that experienced) and i'm also not saying that ur build won't work, i'm sure it'll. Just giving u a new idea.
I made my first guide for troll warlord too, try checking it out, we can learn much from each other.
Anyway, congratz for the guide and have fun! XD

My, nice video.

Ah, the nostalgia of having 10 minutes free farm in lane, no one ganks, no enemies to contest farm on the bottom lane, welcome to Dota, and welcome to the trenches.

I won't criticize since, in the game, you are given farm freely and the item build is viable (any build is viable in the "new players" dota game since most of the time, few people know what they are doing, and since everyone is wrong, means there is no one to blame). But If you want my opinion, do reply, or put PM. I don't mind sharing what I thought.

Do not be discouraged on why suddenly facing super godly enemies, most likely they are "smurfing" accounts, players that is familiar with dota who creates new accounts. Losing to these people is understandable, do not get provoked by their flaming (I know sometimes it's hard), keep calm, and take a rest after a bad game.

Sometimes these smurfs can be on your team, if they are friendly, try to ask their opinions on which build you should go, If you're lucky, they may tell how to play the hero properly. If they are not friendly, mute them, both text and voice, it will save your sanity (and emotions).

I would love your reply @croofe and also thanks for sharing. You're right about everything you said. I have the exact same opinion in my business when I see new people trying to create their websites. It's easy for an expert to look at a noob and roll their eyes but not always easy for them to remember that they also once started out a similar way.

I did think long and hard about sharing this because I know that the mechanics of the game change so much when you start to rank up. The one thing I do know is that there are many noobs out there I have spoken to who genuinely do want to learn how to be better at the game but struggle to know where to look for the best advice.

There should be official Dota qualified coaches available from the menu, totally cash cow and also something which I know people would love to pay to sidestep some of the steep learning curve. Also a good earner for some of the established community who are not quire ready for the International :)

There are already a lot of coaches out there, that you can find here for instance: https://dotacoach.org/

On this subject, I actually sent you a pm this morning offering to coach you for free, if you're interested :) There are a lot of us here that like to help people growing in the game as well.

In my opinion, the best kind of build is the one that suits your lane condition, be it for survival (usually for off-laners), farming efficiency (usually for hard carries), or killing opportunities (usually for lane domination).

If you are bullied hard, taking extra points that grants survival is the best. The enemy waste their mana, while you can still able to farm.

Farming efficiency abilities should be leveled when you have good lane, or to jungle when your lane is bad and you need those golds.

Lane Domination when you want the enemy(ies) to not have farm, so they cannot be dangerous that fast.

For now, let's look at your Viper in the video, especially in early game, because anything later is not so big to mention.

You are facing Huskar in the lane and doing it solo, the best kind of build is to level Corrosive Skin, because his Burning Spear deals magical damage overtime and the killing opportunities is almost non-existent without a partner that can stun so leveling Poison Attack also doesn't offer much benefit. Corrosive Skin reduces the magical damage (less damage) from Burning Spear and punishes him for doing so by passive damage from Corrosive Skin.

But he lefts the lane from early game, and you are confident no one will gank you (or perhaps ignorant about someone ganking you), so you pick Nethertoxin level 2 early. Wise decision. However, you don't press the advantages you have to destroy their towers.

Your team has done a great job to create space (making opponents busy), so you should have taken the time to push the enemy towers.

The enemy's bottom tower should have been destroyed by minute 07:00. This will give huge impact to your team. Your teammates Ursa will have Blink Dagger much earlier and snowball bigger, more space for you to push, and more towers destroyed.

In this situation, maxing Nethertoxin is much preferable because we want those tower destroyed. (Nethertoxin puts half of its effect on structures). Ring of Basilius or Ring of Aquila will bring far to tower destroying since it gives armor to surrounding creeps so more powerful pushes.

Mid game to late game is where builds doesn't matter much. What to buy is items that enhances your hero's strength or mitigates enemy's incoming damage (so you can crush them before they fight back, or you can fight back after they throw their lots on your team). This, unfortunately, demands good knowledge on your hero, enemy heroes, and what your team needs.

The first one is easy, getting knowledge on your hero is best by playing them. Playing against bots is good enough to know how to play your hero.

Knowing your enemy hero is also easy, you just have to play enough games to meet every hero in the pool.

Knowing what your team needs however, is the hardest. Let's say you have a bad game, the enemy goes 5 man push and recent fights shows that your team always lose. The best way to counter them is to split push while the other 4 defs. A tower's presence is huge, often huge enough to slow down 5-man pushes while someone split push and destroy theirs. Now, enemy team is forced to go back, and your team has space to farm.

This is a gaming sense where only more experienced players have. But the REAL question is, HOW to do those things?. How to split push effectively without feeding? how fast can I destroy their unguarded tower? What items is reasonable to buy with my farm rate? etc. etc.

In your Viper's case. I would have gone Ring of Aquila for armor aura for creeps to tank tower attack, maxing Nethertoxin first for quicker tower destroying, push tier 2 if your Ursa still keep enemies busy, or else, I tp to other lane to push another tier 1 towers.

From the tower gold, I can buy something else to enhance my hero.

Well, that's my opinion I suppose.

Stay safe, keep calm and don't feed.

Hey Safecyn you're not the oldest man in Dota Fire anymore, come check this out!

On a serious note, welcome to Dota Fire Steve, and enjoy your stay :) Your guide has very interesting general points about starting playing Dota as newb, and I appreciate it for that, having felt most of it myself. It would be even better, however, if you used some coding to make it look more appealing. Here's where you can find the coding: http://www.dotafire.com/dota-2/blog/dr-d/guide-formatting-and-you

I do not play Viper, so I can't really help with input regarding your skill and item builds, but I will be looking forward to more guides from you as your dota journey continues!

PS: Your video doesn't exist, apparently. Did you take it out on purpose?

Cheers,
ChiChi

Not sure, both me and Safe are 26 year's old, if I'm not mistaken, and he likes to brag about being Old Man Safecyn, but maybe we lose to Smugs indeed in reality :)
