This is great. Thanks for the support guide. I'm a designated support player so I'll definitely give this a try. Pretty sure I will build force staff over a a blink dagger. Int items on Str supports are almost always needed. Also good to know he can farm in his down time. Not many supports have that capability.
I think you just pinpointed the big problem I have with Abaddon as a hero : he's extremely hard to kill, but what's his game impact exactly?
That's the reason for buying disables and auras, because they can't really focus you, and you're making things harder for them just by existing.
I will, of course, add Basher (can't believe I forgot it!) and alternate skillbuilds. I think the purpose of every guide to Abby is to give people a reason not to ignore him and I'm doing it through disables and utility.
But I'll kick your *** if you ever rush a Radiance on him.
I think you just pinpointed the big problem I have with Abaddon as a hero : he's extremely hard to kill, but what's his game impact exactly? In the early game he can play around with shield and coil and it's really good. But what's his late game contribution besides dispelling stuns with shield?
Okay, his Aghanim's Scepter is pretty good. So it's more or less core, because it's the only thing he really scales with. But again, isn't that an underpowered version of Omniknight?
Because when you think about it, what's the best way to play a hero who's hard to kill but not very useful...rushing a Radiance xD
Slightly different hero setup with a similar theme. For me, Abaddon is a bit more flexible, less mana dependent, more damage output potential. I think he's easier to get by with on lower farm and can be more active earlier on...and can contribute more damage later, but personally I think he's got to transistion more than Omni if he's going to be useful late.
For me, the Tranquils -> Urn -> Mek build into some damage items, quite possibly a scepter if your team needs more tanking. I think he's got to be somewhat threatening or at least irritating though - you need to get some farm on him at some point.
Omni has more team utility, but is kinda "static" - he needs farm but I don't think there's a need beyond a certain point (he's never going to be a proper carry). Aba is harder to focus and take down easily unless you have big nukes, he can purge himself and allies much more often. Omni has incredible powers, but also incredibly long cooldowns - he's somewhat easier to counter.
he just ends up as an inferior version of Omniknight

And if you just want to dispel stuns, why don't you pick Legion Commander or something, LC is a natural blink carrier and has 800 cast range on her W so she'll do that job much better, on the other hand Abba with his 500 (!!) cast range on shield is just going to cry.
(@Sando : blink dagger is good because shield has a pathetic cast range. Pudge hooks an ally? You can just Blink-shield him. And it allows to get in melee range to apply curse)

Stahp da hate,
ALL HE SAID WAS HE IS NOT A CARRY!!
Doesnt mean you cant go semi carry and if you got fed you might as well dominate mid game and have enough utility/horsepower for late game.
It is a specific #4 guide. take it as such.Though i cant disagree that this guide will have limited use unless you add alternatte builds.
Actually, sando said correctly that at some point you must have Skull Basher/ Abyssal Blade so you do get targetted. Extra farm is never wasted on abaddon.
Kinda 50/50 on this, I like parts of the build but think it's a bit limited in others. There's no reason you have to max Aphotic Shield first - the lower CD is good, but the mana cost increase and "damage/protection" increase is meh. You can still remove debuffs/stuns etc at level 1, which is the most important thing it does.
Mist Coil is a perfectly viable alternative to max first - you can save (sometimes more effectively), nuke, heal yourself (under ult) or even deny yourself with it.
Personally I prefer a slightly different set of late game items on a greedy #4 or #3 Aba - his biggest problem is that a lot of enemies can simply ignore him and kill his allies. I'm a big fan of Skull Basher on him - very hard to ignore you when you keep stunning them.
Much as I'm usually the guy saying "this hero is a only a support", I think Abaddon often works best as a #3 or #4 transistion hero - sure his skillset is useful early on as a support, but he benefits a lot more than most from some extra farm. Otherwise he just ends up as an inferior version of Omniknight...
Have to say, not convinced by the Blink Dagger...what exactly is he going to initiate or gank with? Force Staff seems a more flexible choice, helps with your mana issues, etc. Tranquil Boots are also quite viable, they work nicely with Mist Coil.
I can see why you would consider purchasing a Force Staff for the sake of added utility, but a Blink Dagger? Abaddon has no form of reliable initiation/lockdown (sheep stick doesn't count) and thus as a support has no other real desire for the item.
The only potential use I could see for blink would be to purchase an Aghanim's Scepter, activate Borrowed Time, and then proceed to blink into a high damage enemy ability in order to heal nearby allies. But that sounds a bit gimmicky, doesn't it?
His cast ranges leave something to be desired for a hero whose job is to save your heroes from death.
Blink Dagger/ Force Staff are just a handy thing to let him make the clutch plays, rather than have to walk in, or rely on godlike positioning all the time. (It lets you be responsive to ambushes more rapidly for example).
Force Staff is arguably the better mobility item for him due to the utility, but it's never really bad to have a Blink Dagger

If you are making a guide for a support Abaddon, that is by no means a reason to call your guide "He's not a carry guys", especially when he is a decent carry for agressive double/triple lane with a supp who wields a disable, he just rips melee carries and squishy supports apart, snowballs or at least denies enemy carry farm in lane. And he is even better offlaner with transition to either semicarry or utility hero.
Still, I liked the way you described how can you fing gold as a #4 - if you play Abaddon as a melee support, you will have terrible time if you can't earn some moneyz. One thing: Abaddon actually helps roamers gank more with his shield rather than coil/passive as it allows for some safer dives or at least ensures the target you dive dies with you.

I'd don't think Mask of Madness or Armlet of Mordiggian are necessarily bad pickups either, as good as Aghanim's Scepter is on him. Black King Bar is occasionally a necessity too.
