First of all I would like to say this is my first guide so I would appreciate feedback and suggestions. I know most of you are thinking that I am crazy for even considering Crystal Maiden as a carry. Before I start though I want to point out that as playing Crystal Maiden carry I won 11 of 14 games 9 of which I had the most kills. That's when I thought to myself, maybe Crystal Maiden could be a decent carry. So I started playing around with different items during different situations and game after game hour after hour, I finally found the ultimate build. Now this build is meant to cover almost every situation possible, Although it really comes down to the person behind the computer but hopefully this guide will help you play.
So the starting items look a little funny right? Like I said before I tested many different situations and going with the 2 clarity and 2 tangos in the beginning really helps. When the clock hits zero make sure to have your first ability Crystal Nova ready, because this is the key ability to harassing and driving the enemy back. I know a lot of you including me like to save your ability's and mana until when you know for sure your gonna get the kill. No matter how much you wanna save it make sure you use it often to drive back that creep lane and get gold. Once your mana is low pop a clarity in and sit back near the tower, because as you know CM is not a tanky hero and therefor is easy to gank early game. If you find yourself with even 100 health missing, dont hesitate and use a tango! Crystal Maiden needs all the health she can get and that is the reason you bought 2 tangos insted of one. Once you have earned enough gold buy some boots for extra speed. Many of you may be tempted to get Frostbite when you level up, but dont do it! Get Arcane Aura, this allows you to use your Crystal nova more often and also gives your allies more mana regeneration. If you do find yourself against Lina, Zeus, Lion or any other nukers, stay calm. Try to stay farther back and use speed to your advantage using crystal nova then retreating. Once level 3 comes along you will want to get a 2nd upgrade on crystal nova and continue your attack retreat until you reach level 4. Once you have reached level four take a deep breath because you can finally upgrade Frostbite.
Some of you may have enough gold to finish your Tranquil Boots, If not do so as soon as possible. If you find yourself lacking mana go ahead and get 2 more clarity and repeat the process until your later upgrade in arcane aura. With Frostbite at hand you are given the privilege to push out a little farther now. once you get a little ways past your tower try not to attack so you can get the extra speed bonus from your boots to avoid attacks. If someone follows you into tower range and your at low health use frostbite and if you have enough for Crystal Nova use that along with it and retreat to base to heal. Level 5 is very helpful giving you the edge in some battles by upgrading Crystal Nova once again. Still tread lightly though and try to avoid any 2 on 1 fights or 1 on 1 fights against Lina or other nukers. Hitting level six is when it gets fun. Get your ultimate move Freezing Feild. This is a very powerful move but takes a long time to refresh and also can be stopped very easily. Once I get my Freezing Field I normally wait for an enemy to come to my side of the field and engage the enemy first by using Crystal Nova then right after Frostbite. Once you have used Frostbite run closer to the enemy and use your ultimate move. Its tough for even Lina or Lion to escape this and normally allows you to get the kill. If you are facing a bounty hunter or riki by some wards before engaging on the enemy, because they could stop your Ult and you could end up dead. If you are facing pudge and he is missing try to stand behind creeps so you dont get hooked well engaging the enemy. By now you should have started on your scepter. The main goal is to get an early scepter so you can maximize your Freezing Field to its full potential. If you can try to buy Point Booster first then Staff of Wizardry, then Ogre Club and last your Blade of Alacrity.
Level 7- 11 is gonna be a speed a run through so Im sorry in advance for any information I miss. By the time you reach level 7 you may find yourself always running low on mana so your gonna want to upgrade arcane aura. Spend any gold you get on the scepter until you finish it. At level 7 you still have to be very cautious and go with your team or stay by towers and just try to rack up the gold. At level 8 upgrade your last upgrade on Crystal Nova. You should at least have a Point Booster by now which allows you to push out farther with your allies. If you are facing lina, zeus, lion or other nukers, beware of there ult and make sure you always have enough health to take damage and survive. If you are being chased using frostbite will give you that extra second you need to survive. Level 9 you need to upgrade once again arcane aura. Make sure your picking off those easy kills by using Crystal Nova, Frostbite and then Freezing Field. Every kill counts so if you feel tempted to save your Ult know that you may be missing out on valuable gold that would help toward the Scepter. At level 10 you should have about 2 or 3 of the 4 items you need for the Scepter. Your gonna want to upgrade Frostbite to keep the enemy in place longer which helps when you use Freezing Field also giving you the extra damage and set up kills for your Crystal Nova. At level 11 with your second upgrade on freezing field you may now start to hide behind trees and help allies damage and kill multiple Heroes at a time. Level 12 is when you need your last upgrade on arcane aura and if you are doing well should have scepter which allows you to kill multiple enemy heroes in seconds. Remember though that it can be stopped instantly, so your gonna want something that can keep you hidden when you active your ult. It depends on who your are facing but I normally go with Glimmer Cape a cheap fast solution to people stopping me. If you are facing a Bounty Hunter though your gonna want to go with a Black King Bar so it can stop the stuns. If you do have Glimmer Cape though activate it move like 4 steps and then use your ult because if you use your Ult right as you activate it Lion, Lina and other stunners can guess where you are and stop it.
Level 13 allows you to get your last upgrade on Frostbite and gives you the opportunity to stop tanky units. With the extra stopping time they are now stuck in Freezing Field for an extra 3 seconds. Depending on who you are facing and what you really want the items from here on out vary. I find my self normally going with a Shiva's Guard just because it gives me that 30 bonus intelligence and bonus Armour to everyone along with that Artic Blast, which acts as a great combo with CM's moves. Level 14-25 your just gonna be upgrading stats and increasing your power. If it ends up really late game you may want to consider A Refresher Orb or even a Linken's Sphere. Just remember the key to getting those kills is knowing when to use your Ult and being smart and knowing you cant just run into battle activate your Ult and get an Ultra Kill. Instead be strategic about when and where you start your Ult. Thanks for Reading my guide to Crystal Maiden Carry
