Introduction and Summary

Hi, this will be my first guide and I've decided to do a guide on Earthshaker, and a different way to play him. Earthshaker, is supposed to be a roaming support/ganker, but in such situations where more DPS is needed, this build will certainly do the job. Also to mention the
buffs he received almost every patch to all of his abilities, he will do some serious damage when played both a carry, and support. Also to mention the 400% totem damage with 5second cooldown. A video can be seen here where Na' Vi pulled off a carry Earthshaker because the team lacked physical damage output.

Pros and Cons

PROS
- Carry with good early game ganking
- 1 Hit KOs are possible
- Can be played both as a carry and support (flexible)
- LOTS of stun
- Good teamfight presence
- Humiliate the enemy with a carry Earthshaker
- HUGE tri-lane/laning presence with aggressive line-up.

CONS
- Low AGI
- Not the hardest carry
- Silence ruins the hero
- Demands more farm than a standard carry

Laning

First, Earthshaker's base damage is fairly low, so you might want to pick up a QB for him. Earthshaker can go agressive with a tri-lane, and it would go VERY well. Add 2 more supports with stun/damage with Earthshaker and the opposing Tri-lane could not deal with the damage (unless the tri-lane is extremely defensive e.g. Shadow Demon, Treant, etc.) So rarely you will ever get to the "Not having a good game" build. So what you do in lane is, get kills if possible, and just farm and last hit siege units with enchant totem (one point can do the job)
By the 8th minute mark, you should at least have a Midas and regular boots. If you can't do this it's pretty much gg because Earthshaker needs lots of farm to carry. If you're doing EXTREMELY well, you can opt for a Battlefury, Shadow blade, and Midas fairly easily because of Earthshaker's ability to farm fast. Always call for a support to stack the medium/large camps so you can clear them for gold. DO NOT play Earthshaker like an Anti-Mage or Void. His ganking potential is very good and you may get more gold by ganking than hitting creeps. But to be a good carry is to farm heroes and to farm creeps at a good pace. Wise decisions are needed for good carrying.

Enchant Totem

This is your main Carry ability. Without this, you're just any other support. REMEMBER Enchant Totem only increases the BASE DAMAGE which is the amount of strength you have, hence the reason why to get Heart and Strength based items.

So I got my items, How do I play him?

Ok, let's assume you have Battlefury, Shadow Blade, Midas, level 13, and Mana boots by the 25-30 minute mark. Ask your support to stack camps and clear with Enchant Totem, and gold should just be FLOWING toward you. When engaging in a gank/team clash, Enchant Totem first, then use Shadow Blade. Wait a few seconds for Totem to come off Cooldown, then your preferred target of choice are squishy supports. So in this order: Totem > Shadow Blade > Hit > Fissure/Echo > Totem = kill
Sometimes, Shadow Blade might not be an effective initiation tool to use Echo slam. So with this, you might need another initiator to go in and then you yourself go in.
REMINDERThe Battlefury is mainly used for farming with totem, and Shadow Blade is to give solid initiation, 1-hit KOs, escape, and attack speed which Earthshaker Desperately needs.
SOMETIMESyou may skip the Midas if you don't need it and need an early Shadow Blade, then go for it.

Late-game strategy

By the time late game comes, you probably can't stand toe to toe against their hard carry but you can still do something. And by this time the main thing that will keep you alive is STUNLOCK. That's the main thing that will keep you alive during teamfights and be able to stand against their hard carry. An item of choice in this situation is Abyssal Blade. Why? Aside from Stunlocking with Totem > Fissure > Totem, You can add Abyssal Blade to lock them even further!
But the real bane of Earthshaker is BKB. All of your stunlock is removed and you can be an easy target to attack.

Game going not well?

If the game going is not going well for you, you should rather skip out Midas and Battlefury and rush Blink Dagger or Shadow Blade. Let's assume that you don't have space to farm and you need to farm heroes. You'll be a makeshift support and transition to carry later on when you have enough gold.
Armlet is also a good choice here

Friends and Foes

Friends :)
-Any hero that can keep you and the team alive during fights
These allow you to bait out their BKBs and go in to stun everyone.
-Bloodseeker
Man, those 3k crits are really fun now eh?
-Crystal Maiden
Mana regeneration, aggressive laning, what else can you ask for?
-Naga Siren
Perfect initiation for Echo, Stunning, etc.
-Vengeful Spirit
Command Aura increases BASE damage, so as increasing your damage for Enchant Totem. Has -Armor, more damage from totem, and a stun for laning
-Wolf Packleader Aura
Combined with Command Aura, Damage will be over the top.

Foes :(
-Doom
Doom will completely render you almost useless DPS wise and you will be a sitting goose. With his high MS, you won't catch up to him. And his tankiness ensures you won't have an easy fight.
-Naix
Magic resistance for 6 seconds, and he will rip you to shreds with Feast because of your natural tanky item build.
-Pit Lord
He's not in Dota 2 yet, but his aura brings down your damage A LOT, and his tankiness is not easy to take down.
-Omniknight
Good luck fighting against Repel + Guardian Angel

Other items

Red is for REJECTED
Blue is SITUATIONAL
Green is RECOMMENDED

-Armlet
A good item that gives what Earthshaker needs: Armor, Strength, Attack speed. Very cost efficient and you should get it if you're lacking gold. Same procedure for fighting, Armlet > Totem > Shadow Blade > hit > Totem = kill
-Linken's Sphere
If there's a lot of point target stuns, you might want to try this item for survivability, regen, and stats.
-BKB
Why is BKB situational? First, ES has a lot of lockdown. Next, if your team doesn't have enough sustain to maintain equillibrium of the team in a teamfight, you should get it. If the enemy doesn't have Naix, etc. then skip the item because it gives bad stats, and just go for heart or some other item.
-Aghanim's Scepter
Just no. It's already a horrible upgrade to the ultimate itself, but it's a huge waste of 4200 gold to a carry Earthshaker.
-Refresher Orb
Sounds good on paper, but in games, no. Corpses do not emit the echo (as of 6.7x patch)

Conclusion

Lastly, carry Earthshaker is only viable in certain line-ups, and as a surprise strategy in pro games. Playing carry Earthshaker when you already have a farm-dependent carry is a bad thing to have. PLEASE leave feedback whether positive or negative as it is my first guide in dotafire.com
Happy carrying!
