Earthbind 4 the win!

Hi, i'm me, & ur u & this is an advanced guide 4 Meepo. (also available in-game)

Have fun with it! :)

The Transformation from a God to a Dirty Thief

"Originally worshipped by the pagan tribes of Germania and the black forests that encompassed it, Meepo is a mischievous spirit of the earth who enjoys burying his enemies alive in mountains of rock spikes, pinning them down into helplessness as he pummels them into submission with his mighty shovel. The most disturbing of the Geomancer's powers, however, is his ability to separate his being into multiple selves, each as powerful as the original and making him potentially four times the trouble for the unlucky who encounter him."

"If you ask me, life is all about who you know and what you can find. When you live up in the Riftshadow Ruins, just finding food can be tough. So you need to cut corners, you need to scrounge, you need to know your strengths. Some of the beasts up there can kill you, so you need a way to trap the weak and duck the strong. On the upside, the ruins have history, and history is worth a lot to some people. There used to be a palace there, where they had all these dark rituals. Bad stuff. If you survived the ceremony, they would shatter a crystal and split your soul into pieces. They made great art though! Sculptures and such. Let me tell you: sometimes you stumble onto some of those old carvings. Take a pack full of those to town and sell them, then get yourself food for a few weeks. If luck is really on your side, you might find a Riftshadow crystal. Get it appraised and start asking around. Someone always knows some crazy fool looking for this kind of thing. If all else fails, sell it to a Magus the next time one's in town. They love that stuff. Still, whatever you do, be careful handling those crystals. You do not want one to go off on you. It really hurts."

Pros / Cons

Pros:

  • Great nuker (Poof, 1400 (-25% base MagicRes: 1070) dmg with 5 Meepos. FART of DEATH :P)
  • Disabler (Earthbind, u can perma-net any1 after lvl 16)
  • Semi-carry
  • Multiple lanes farm possibility (easy 2 say, hard 2 master :/)
  • After lvl 7: best and fastest jungler ever
  • Very funny hero 2 play with (okay, Ogre's comments 2 himself r the funniest but hes 2nd)
  • Everyone respects you when you kick *** (from here)

Cons:
  • Easiest hero 2 be nuked (first target in teamfights)
  • Hard 2 micro
  • Earthbind in not really reliable, cause its hard 2 land
  • Not very noob-friendly (not even pro-friendly)

Skills

The skill build is self-expansionary: u have 2 max Poof asap & get ur ulti whenever u can.

(IMO the animation of Poof was much better in the original game. Back than u could almost smell it :D:D:D)

The only question is whether 2 pick 1-1 from Earthbind and Geostrike at the early levels, or 2 get only one of these at a higher level (and max it after Poof).

Maxing Geostrike could help ur jungling a bit, but without a lvl 4 Bind we can't disable any1 who's not right under ur nose. And ganking potency outweighs jungling speed (we will clear camps with Poof anyway)

Play Style

U have 2 be very cautious till lvl 3. Hug ur tower, don't even dream about killing.

After u got ur 1st clone go and Poof the jungle 2 oblivion.

Get ur items and with 2 clones start ganking (after lvl 11).

Items

Geostrike & Orb of Venom/Eye of Skadi stacks..

(Bugstone no longer works :/)

Staring Items: salve, boots and orb of venom

After hitting level 6:
Start farming in the jungle.

Rush: Aghanim's Scepter.

It has a new ability: clones get 100% of ur stat bonuses!!
Which means, that from now on, those kind of items r worth buying.
(And of course gives that lovely extra Meepo, with whom we r all deep in love with).

When u feel it's safe: kill Roshan and collect ur Aegis of the Immortal.

Finnish with: Heart of Tarrasque and the Armlet of Mordiggian, couse ur Poof will not instakill every1 at the later stages of the game, so u need 2 prepare 4 hand-2-hand combat.
(Okey, it's actually a digger/shovel-2-whatever combat.)

You may finish Skadi now.

For the last item (when u already used up ur Aegis) i recommend the: Ethereal Blade. It gives great stats, disables annoying physical damage-dealers like Phantom Assassin and u can also kill them while the ethereal from is up and running, cause Poof (any magic) will damage them 40% more, 2k altogether. ((5*2x140)+40%=1400+40%=1960 dmg -25% with basic Magic Res hurts: 1470)

If u feel so, u can also push like hell (or nature prophet)with Boots-of-travel-63]Boots of Travel[/url] ,but i highly recommend 2 buy this at later stages of the game, becouse Power Treads gives u so much HP & attack speed, that it can't be skipped.
(If Dota would ever add a boots with evasion, consider it automatically highly recommended)
(I don't take Power Boots any more, i go straight the teleporter)

In depth Heart of Mordiggian, a.k.a the Armlet of Tarrasque

The last 2 items r the funniest of all: as i already sad, the new Arkham's Scepter gives clones 100% of ur stat bonuses, which means we have 2 search 4 items which combos with this fact and only the main Meepo has 2 suffer the consequences (the sideback of the item).

Yes, Dear Reader, i'm talking about the: Armlet of Mordiggian!!!

While activated it gives +31 Damage, +10 Attack Speed, and +25 Strength, but drains 40 HP per second.
BUT only for ur main Meepo, the others get the full 25 Str bonus (and 25*19=475 HP with it).
Just 4 the record: Power Treads gives u 8 Str, and 8+30%(=10 Str => +200 Hp) 2 ur clones, if u don't have ur Scepter yet and 8+100%=16 Str (=> +300 HP) 2 ur clones if u have it)

But w8: -Isn't it going kill me on the long run?
-Yes, but that's why the universe invented the very Heart (and Soul) of Tarrasque!
Gives 40 Strength (=> +760 Hp) 2 ALL Meepos and regenerets the main.
For example it negates the HP loss of Mordiggian we just built in. (-40Hp/sec & + >90Hp/sec)

More enlighten minds ask themselves now: why not more than 1 Armlet of Mordiggian?!?!
The answer is fairly obvious: more then 1 activated sadly does not stack. :'(

If u did a Usual build and u need a translation lategame: I recommend 2 use these 2 items after u used up ur stacks on the Drum and ur Mekansm will be useless after lvl 25 (but it's definitely gamebreaking till lvl 16), so the Drum and Meka can be replaced with the "Heart of Mordiggian".
(Or u can call it Armlet of Tarrasque, if u prefer this 1 better).

Keep in mind that the correct order of buying these items r: Heart of Tarrasque & just after this Armlet of Mordiggian (in the reverse order, u will be forced 2 switch it on and off, which is quite annoying and usually the Meepos will lose so much heath in that procedure, that they r will be an easy target 4 a lurking assassin).

So if u get these 2 items u will get 25+40=65 Str bonus (=> +1235 HP) and if u also sticked 2 ur Power Boots, the main Meepo will get 8 Str and the clones 8+100%=16 Str so combined with the other items: 65+8/16=73/81 Str and the 73*19=1387/81*19=1539 Hp with it.

+1.5k HP MAKES THE DIFFERENCE!!

Let me demonstrate it 4 u:
a lvl 25 Meepo with the Usual items has: 2.5k Hp.
(Main:2497/Clones:2449 HP exactly, happily there is no difference between the main's Hp and the Clones' (50 Hp in nothing), so ur weakest link is just as thought as ur strongest)

With Heart of Mordiggian and the Power Boots it's: 3.7k/3.4k (3766/3418, the difference is 348)

If u switched ur PowerHouseTreads 2 a Teleporter one: 3.6k/3.1k Hp is the number we were interested in.
(Precisely 3614/3114 HP, the dif is bigger: exactly 500)

All in all, we can come 2 the conclusion that using the "Heart of Mordiggian" and the Power Boots give u the most HP as expected, and Teleporter Boots costs u 152/304 Hp, which is significant.
If we compare it 2 the Usual build (that, without the extra Str items) the difference is much more obvious:

1.3k/1k (1269/969 HP). (51%/40% HP gain compared 2 the Usual build)

Q.e.D.

Team Work

Best Allies r:

Magnus, Dark Seer, Axe, Treant, Tide, etc.. So all the heroes with mass crowd control.
Skeleton King's Vampiric Aura, Omniknight's heal and ulti, Riki's Cloud (it can be really frustrating 2 be perma-neted under it), Engima's ulti, Chen's mass heal and free trip home, Keeper of the Light's (a.k.a Gandalf's) teleport and last, but not least: WitchDoc's Chain-Stun and Heal.

TUSK(aRRR): FREE BlinkDagger ;)

A dream-team 4 Meepo is a Dark Seer/Ngima to "let's *** together", a Magnataur to strengthen the bounds, a Riki 4 the silence-miss clouding the whole group and a Storm Spirit/Kunkka/Disruptor 2 put fugitives (from the cloud escaping heroes) back 2 there place.
Ohh, of course ur job is 2 keep them under the umbrella, with perma-net.

One of the hidden weaknesses of Meepo is that u have 2 get a lane partner who can solo the lane after he's hitting lvl 6 (so u can go jungle) AND useful in the mid/late game (after lvl 11 + obtaining the scepter) because i think that's Meepo's MOMENT, after that he can't win the game alone.
(i prefer who's useful later on, early game is either way all about survival)

Wors Enemys::

EARTHSHAKER!!! kills u in a Blink of an eye with hes ulti.
Sven's, Slardar's, Sand King's, Kunkka's, Tiny's, Warlock's and co's mass-Stun.
Undying's Str-steal, slow.
ALL the point and kill heroes: like Lifestealer, Lina, Lion, Phantom Assassin etc..
Bloodseeker + Force Staff combo
Lich's somehow always between 2 Meepos popping Frost of Chain.
Pudge's Hook + Fresh Meat

So as u can see: Ur best buds, r ur worst foes.!..

I think u got the idea. >:)

Usual & Unmentioned Items

by Skullsplitter

Meepo's Usual build include Mekansm, Drum of Endurance, Assault Cuirass and sometimes the Pipe of Insight. They were all the best items back then, but this new patch reshaped the world as we know it.
The Teams support usually wants 2 buy these items (Meka, Drum, Pipe) and they r very pissed of when i say:
I will buy them!
Cause i basically steal (reserve 4 my self) everything they could/want/need 2 buy.
Leave Assault Cuirass 2 someone else, still Vladmir's Offering will remain as a possible Casus belli (something that teammates will argue on, who is going 2 get), but this way u will get much less stress, like i used 2.
If an Ursa is so bullheaded and blindfolded, that he buys a Vlad, feel free 2 buy something else on the long-run that is missing from the team's overall/combined Aura-forces. (4 example this is the perfect moment 2 try the fearsome Manta Styley, which gives a tremendous amount of Agi. Hi-hi-hi.)

Manta Style: it's interesting, but u already have the best items possible. Experiment with it if u like or if some1 got Vlad's already, this is the first item i recommend 4 a try.

Pipe of Insight & Urn of Shadows r good additions 2 the pack-rat's arsenal, but it's much better 2 ask ur support 2 buy them. Same applies 4 Eul's Scepter of Divinity.

Scythe of Vyse: is a great way 2 take an annoying enemy out (a well fed carry usually), but ur support can get it also, and we only have 6 item slots.
This is the only item from these i can recommend if the situation desires it, but if ur such a fan of disabling, u should buy:

Ethereal Blade instead! Does basically the same (ur enemy can't hit, during ethereal from) and amplifies magic damage (4 ex.: Poof, Dagon, etc).

Binkdagger: a lot of people like it, but my opinion is that losing half of ur damage 4 2k gold is a bad trade.
(That sum could have been spent on an Armlet instead, a.k.a HEY, U SPENT MY GOLD ON THAT!?!?!)
Blink-Poof damage is: 280+4*140=840 (-25%: 630) at most (60% of 1400, so u lose 40%)

I rely on my precise net-throwing-control.

Compareing Results

The Usual build (Meka, Drum, Cuirass) would give u at most: 49 Bonus Attack Speed, 15% Bonus Movement Speed, 516 Hp, 3,96 Armor, 23 Dmg and 5 Armor Reduction on the enemy.

The new 1 gives: 1425 Hp, 40 Bonus Attack Speed, 5,6 Armor, 40 Dmg.

So i lose: 9 Bonus Attack Speed, 15% Bonus Movement Speed & the 5 Armor Reduction.

And we gain: 909 Hp, 1,64 Armor and 19 Dmg.

There is 1 upside of the Usual build, i didn't mention: most of the items (the parts they r build from) r very cheap. Which means u don't have to go in a fight with 3k gold and risk 2 die & lose some of it. This is a tough question: u go in a fight 2 get gold, so u can buy a new item. In the Usual case most of the items r available from the home shop, so before u die, u can insta-buy it, with the help of the quick-purchase, but with this new build u have to be careful and always keep in mind, when 2 go forest & get those few remaining coins from the minions and when 2 take the risk, go in a fight and basically play double or nothing, 2 get 2 ur new item.

The new build costs 3.6k gold more, which is approximately 2 late-game buy-backs.

U decide! :)

Ur still able to get the best of both worlds (the bonuses of the auras), if ur teammates get them. (The 35% Bonus Attack Speed, 15% Bonus Movement Speed, 2 Armor, the 250 Hp heal and the 5 Armor Reduction.)
