Intro

Hi. This guide will teach you the best way to run Abaddon. He is an adaptable hero who is a balanced tank/semi-support/semi-carry. Many players will suggest support or carry builds, but these fail to do justice to his greatest strength: his survivability. By making Abaddon survivable, he will be the first one in every fight and the last one out, ganking enemies and healing teammates along the way.

Early game he lives and dies by his mana due to his relatively short cooldowns combined with the versatile offensive/defensive uses of his abilities. It is best to put him in the difficult lane because of his high movement speed and ability to survive/help allies survive ganks. He can even solo, though do not expect to get any more than half of the farm because you will often have to hang out in the back while your mana regenerates.

Abaddon does have a few tricks he can use, such as engaging his ultimate at the perimeter of an enemy tower to heal up. You also want to be sure to cast your Mist Coil at this time to gain even more health (be sure to not over-commit because your ultimate only lasts 3-5 seconds). Another good time to use Mist Coil is when you are shielded because you won't take damage and you can pull off a 450 damage nuke for 200 mana.

Early Game

Your mana and armor (aura) will allow you to control the lane most of the time. While you farm, spam your shield and only your shield. Use Mist Coil only to last hit an enemy hero or save an ally. If enemies come near you and your shield is up, aggro them until they leave. Be a pig. The early Ring of Regeneration will keep your health up between shields until you can afford your void stone, but it may be necessary to back up between casts while you recuperate. Once you have the Void Stone, you can be even more aggressive about spamming spells, controlling the lane, and hurting enemy heroes, all while taking no damage yourself.

Try to avoid buying any health/mana consumables because getting the Void Stone as quickly as possible, with ability spam, will give you a great advantage over your opponents.

Mid-Game

The Vlad's is not actually an ideal item for Abaddon at this point because his damage is too low to appreciate the aura, but the rings you've aquired really help with the early game. Your allies will appreciate the Vlad's in group engages and it allows you to jungle when convenient.

The next thing you want to do is finish your boots or get a Perseverance. Being fast will allow you to chase/slow enemy heroes with Curse, escape fights that you initiate, and reach/save allied heroes who are dying. The damage boost will make the Vlad's more effective. The Perseverence will be more useful if you are taking a lot of damage while laning.

Late Game

The Bloodstone will come up quickly and ensure that you are casting lots of abilities and avoiding large death penalties. At this point you want to start pushing towers hard because of your tankiness and 1337 group-fight skillz.

It is here that you will start to transition into the carry stage. The Sange and Yasha's speed boost, combined with the speed and attack rate benefits of the Curse, and your Phase Boots, will allow you to hunt down and kill most heroes 1 on 1 (or in groups). The Heart as your next item will allow you to be more survivable for the end-game. At this point you should be able to kill any enemy while saving teammates.

Congratulations on your Immortality.
