Hero Creation Contest (+ New Concept Creation Tool!)

We're happy to be back with another hero creation contest! The International is on its way and IceFrog himself is working on new heroes, but we would like to see what our community's imagination can create! For the next two weeks you will have time to craft any hero concept you like using our new hero creation system.

Below you will find more information about the prizes and the rules. The contest starts today (July 23rd) and will end in two weeks from now (August 6th); the following week the hero concepts will be judged and the winners picked (August 6th - August 13th).

How Does The System Work? Our latest feature was created to ease the creation of hero concepts and for better visualization and sharing. Concepts can receive comments, votes and can be easily created by anyone. The main features are: Hero Introduction - customize your hero's name, icon and lore based on your preference. Infinite Ability Options - you can create as many abilities as you like! There are 3 different kinds: primary abilities, ultimate abilities, and other abilities. You can also add an icon and pick a hotkey! Ability Template - to make it easier to format your abilities there is a default template that you can start off with and modify based on your needs. Talent Editor - the talent tree is already set up, all you have to do is put your talent text in! Chapters, and More Chapters - if you feel like your concept needs more chapters, feel free to add as many as you need. Need an extra area to explain how your hero works? We have your back!

How Can I Participate? Craft a new hero concept using our hero creation system. Make sure to respect the rules while creating your hero! If you have already created a hero concept that respects the rules of this edition, you can update it and use it as an entry. Revise and polish your hero concept, make sure it's in best form by the final day. If you'd like more opinions or reviews on your hero concept just link it in this thread or ask for feedback on our Discord server. Collaboration and asking for help is both expected and encouraged. :) That's it! We'll judge all the hero concepts posted during the contest period and announce the worthy winners as soon as possible!

What Are The Rules? The hero concept must be created using our hero creation system. Creating concept threads or linking to external websites will not count. You must create your hero concept during the contest period (July 23rd - August 6th). Your hero concept must fulfill these material requirements: Hero basic information (stats, primary attribute, lore, etc.) At least 4 original abilities An explanation on how the hero's supposed to be played (optional) You're allowed to make changes to your hero concept during the contest period and after the winners have been announced. Changes should not be made during the judging period (August 6th - August 13th). Plagiarism is strictly prohibited and will automatically disqualify your entry. NOTE: BBCode does not belong to any one writer and does not fall under plagiarism rules

What Will the Hero Concepts be Judged On? Quality - not anyone can create a great hero Think about all the heroes that you know, people wouldn't even consider playing them if their creation didn't receive enough thought and effort. Make sure that your hero and its abilities are interesting while also making sure that the descriptions and formatting make it easy for the readers to understand how your hero works. Originality - every hero must be unique Originality is the most difficult to obtain yet it is the key to a great hero. However, not everything about your hero must be super special and complicated, but there must be something memorable and unique about your creation in order for it to fit well in the DotA world and to make people be interested in the hero. Play Style - hard and flashy or easy and straightforward? There are heroes like Invoker which are difficult to play but really fun and enjoyable but also heroes like Viper which are easier but not as exciting as others. Now it's time for you to decide how your hero will roll! Now, all you have to do is get started! Start crafting your hero concept now!

Fine Print Hero concepts must be crafted respecting the rules of this edition. Open to registered DOTAFire members only. Not a member? Register now and craft your hero concept! Contest is worldwide. Prizes are awarded through Steam trading. Contest will be closed 2 weeks from the start of the contest. (August 6th) After contest is closed there will be a 1 week judging period (August 6th - August 13th). Participants can submit multiple entries but may win only once. Winners will be notified by email after the judging period and will have 7 days to claim their prize.

There is no theme for now, maybe for the next ones. We just want people to experiment with the new hero creator while winning some nice prizes for their concepts. :)

As for the balance aspect, that's also an important factor but not so much. It should be balanced, indeed, but balancing might be the most difficult part since we cannot actually try our creations in game to see how they behave and what else to change.

I think balance fits well under the quality of the hero. :D

You need an account on the website in order to create concepts, so no, you cannot participate without an account. As for sharing on other platforms, as long as that platform is fine with it and accepts sharing, sure.

Darn, I was really hoping for a theme so I wouldn't have to go looking for inspiration.

I have some vague ideas off the bat but I'm worried it's something I've seen around here. Unfortunately, I can't find any hero concepts that match it.

If I make a hero and someone mentions that it's been done or seems too similar to another concept, can I resubmit something else?

How do we submit a hero concept? Do we post a link to it here or are you looking at all the concepts made?
