I'm not sure if you're joking, but it definitely does. Lina Inverse is based off Lina Inverse from Slayers, hence why Lina's title in DotA is "The Slayer".
It looks like her and she has the same name, but I meant this has nothing to do with her, because Lina has a way different story than that anime girl does. It's just inspired from that anime, nothing more.

Here's Lina's (WC3) DotA lore
"A renowned pyromancer roaming the lands, Lina Inverse originally joined the Sentinel for monetary purposes. However, weeks turned into months, and fighting alongside the many holy warriors with fearless souls inspired her with the responsibility of protecting the sanctity of the World Tree. With her devastating abilities to summon vaporizing flames, she wreaks havoc among the enemy ranks. In dire situations, she would imbue herself with an ultimate fervor, or even call forth a massive beam of lightning which is said to instantly slay any single foe. A most feared enemy of the Scourge, a most unswerving defender of the Sentinel."
That's like, the exact same sort of story as in Slayers. She's world renowned, follows money, but gets caught up with something like saving the world from just being there.
The DotA 2 background is pretty vague, but it still shouts Slayers. -
She has a sister. She's overconfident. She brings unwanted action to villages that don't really want her magic everywhere.
It's inspired from Slayers, to be sure, and the character has a lot of her background, design, and ability names based on her. Slayers was a groundbreaking anime that basically set the mark for fantasy fiction that came after it. Much fantasy still is inspired from Slayers. If anything, Lina in DotA is homage to Lina's ever present, though more discrete involvement in other fantasy.
It's not just a coincidence. This is where Lina came from, and I honestly thing it has a place in a thread where we're discussing the roots of names, and where DotA names come from.
