It's kinda weird for me. My only experience with DotA is with the 2nd installment. However a bunch of the people I play with have been old vets to the series, so I found myself picking up the lingo from the first game and from time to time throwing it around unconsciously.

All that being said, I do prefer when people use the proper names from DotA 2. It helps decrease the chance of miscommunication among players, as well as further validating the game which Valve has spent much time and effort putting together. I mean, God forbid this game ever gets washed up, allowing League of Legends becomes the standard. ...*shudders*

Dota was always a community-generated game and certain heroes have been renamed repeatedly through the years for a variety of reasons. I don't believe there is ever a 'proper-name'. Just as old Dota players should not freak out over changing Bristleback to Rigwarl, new Dota 2 players should also learn to adapt to the old names.

Haha you don't have to worry about Dota 2 becoming washed up. It was popular before the term MOBA ever existed, and it will remain a popular game after this genre loses its trendiness.
