Initiating with Kunkka, not his best role to be sure. Your better off throwing your boat during another hero's AOE stun than trying to land it plain.
I find its possible if you Torrent and halfway through the animation you can tell they are going to be hit, throwing Ghost Ship then leads to a pretty reliable hit.

Other than that, trying to hit them with the boat at a right angle to the lane. Say your hiding near the easy Radiant jungle camps and they are in the mid lane, most of the boats travel will be in the fog to them so it doesn't give them much time once they can see it cross the trees.
"Windranger" is not how you spell Windrunner.
