I played a few solo pubs yesterday and it felt pretty good. I've been teaching my friends how to play for the last month or so, so I really haven't had time to focus on my own Dota. I was actually afraid that I had gotten worse from playing medium bots with them game after game, but to my surprise I was actually playing a bit better than normal.

ANYWAY, my last game was the one above with me playing as Dragon Knight. He's one of my favorite heroes and I had been wanting to play him for awhile, so I had him selected with mid lane called. Someone else (I forget who, perhaps CM before she picked that hero) highlighted mid with their hero and said "MID PLZ" and I immediately thought "great.." but they gave up when I said I was going and we could just split farm ;) Well, the early game was going pretty rough for me because I was up against a Shadow Fiend. He got early souls and was harassing me pretty hard, but I ended up getting first blood on their Riki when I went top. I noticed PA was building a Battlefury and I tried to convince her not to so we could have early fight to keep up with Riki and Troll Warlord but they just said "no i need farm."

Ok. So I decided I would build Shadow Blade and go for pickoffs. I got it at a somewhat decent time, which happened to be right around when CM abandoned. Seeing their advantage they just started pushing like crazy and took most towers. The Shadow Blade was super useful during this time and I got several pickoffs on their Shadow Fiend. Meanwhile Timbersaw was doing work elsewhere. We had a small scuffle at bot lane where I got caught out, and Phantom Assassin and another hero tried to chase down the fleeing heroes. Shadow Fiend was at roughly 33% hp and PA just walks right by... He had no ult, no razes, and was virtually dead if she had used one blink, but she chased another hero and ended up dying. So I said something about how they need to pay attention more and Timber interjected "yeah but you rushed SB," which confused me. I asked him why I was supposed to be insulted by that, but he stayed quiet.

We had a tough game, but we ended up getting a lot of farm between Timber and myself, and we turned it around. I sold the SB in the late game for a basher and we pushed and won. Since their Lion and Axe had been trashtalking a lot, I joked that it was the "eziest DK of my life" and Timber, again, jumped me and said I did nothing all game and "rushed SB," again saying it like an insult lol.

So yeah, just remember that at a certain level of Dota 2, even if you play great and win a match at a disadvantage, you are still a noob if you rush SB on DK :( But honestly other than the jerk Timber, I had a lot of fun in that game. Playing a favorite hero and stomping with him, especially when you're a man down, always feels great.

The game before that, found here: http://www.dotabuff.com/matches/1213043443, was a bit worse..

I was playing the safelane Weaver, which was kind of a last minute, spur of the moment choice honestly. We needed a carry and I didn't want to pick melee because of carries, so I just sorta picked him, even though I prefer solo offlane with him. Turns out it was a bad choice because I still couldn't blow up bombs without being in the radius.. I found out after the match that I was playing with a 4-stack against a 5-stack, and I think they must have been quite a bit under my skill level. I don't mean this as an insult or anything, they just seemed kinda new. I think Broodmother was especially new, because one of the other team members kept giving him build advice. Anyway, more on their lower level later.

Well, to say the least the early game was hell. Techies was actually pretty decent as far as that hero is concerned, and had a nice fat mine stack in the middle of the lane. So I gave up first blood while blocking creeps, and he also got all the gold for the entire creep wave. For some reason it took awhile for sentries to arrive, so Techies kinda got to run rampant. He got several kills and I was getting little to no farm. Eventually, however, he started roaming so I started scraping up some gold. I got treads and linkens after a few fights and I actually managed to get a few kills with some careful play.

I knew that the other team was getting fat, but I wasn't really sweating it because I was playing well. I had Deso, Linkens, and a BKB in the making, so I knew I was going to be difficult to kill. At this point I saw Pudge die in the middle of their jungle for like the third time in a row, so I looked at the scoreboard. He had 20 deaths. This wasn't even that late in the game, I would probably say the latter part of the mid game. I told him to please hold back a bit and not go alone and he said, over voice chat, "you know what weaver? no." Apparently he was just joking, but it was still frustrating to have a PUDGE of all heroes feeding so hard when I was actually playing quite well.

The Chen was decent, but still pretty meh. He rushed Aghs which is fine I guess, but he pretty much only had ancients once he got it. The only aura we had from him was the stone golem's, which was nice, but it wasn't that beneficial by itself. Adding to that, he didn't have much micro at all. Hand of God was usually on point though.

The Pudge was just bad.. There's not much more to say. Broodmother surprisingly had a few decent plays, but seemed kinda unfamiliar to the hero as a whole. He wasn't really pushing, and was just kind of a drag on the team.

It wasn't a good game for the team, but I guess it was enjoyable. It was pretty close, and I love close games. Still, I wish I wasn't stuck in this trench. I'm really considering leveling my smurf so I can get a recal..
