Is it just me or does dota turn everyone into a-holes?

Dies Irae
I have a friend that just insists that he knows everything about dota and if you don't listen to what he says then you are an idiot and don't know how to play, even though clearly that is not the case, it has been a common problem and a lot of my friends have started to hate each other and say how bad everyone else is and thats why we lost the game, even though everyone has been playing for a long time and has a pretty good feel for the game. The worst part is this particular person that has a grudge against me gossips and spreads rumors that make people question my ability to play to the point if I make one little mistake, even if we win, they dig at that mistake like lifestealer digging into an open wound :P.
I have tried to tell the person flat out to please stop doing that, but now the person just tells all my friends not to invite me when they play because of how bad I play. Luckly I have some friends that recognize that they are making false accusations, but it is still really annoying and stressful to deal with.
How can I solve this predicament? Is it just me or does dota turn everyone into a-holes?
For your particular problem, true friends won't really care about stuff like that. I usually play as a stack of 3 and when me or one of my friends do the SLIGHTEST mistake and one of us sees it, they're/we're going to laugh and flame whoever did that. We've been best friends IRL before dota though, I guess that's why we really don't care.
If you guys can't do that, then just stick to your good friends and play in peace.
EDIT: Oh, and considering the nature of the dota community and the game, another good answer might be to actually get better and show your improvement.
