Greetings

I'm somewhat new to the game, I played the first DOTA I had W3 and someone told me to try the game at the time but I was kinda young and felt like it wasn't my kind of game. Now I got in the beta of DOTA2 and I love the game, it's so much fun.

I like to play support in most games and I found out that you could buy a courier in this game and it seems the support is recommended to buy it for the team. I tried a custom game to see how I can use it but I couldn't figure it out. So basically the question is how do I use the courier and if everyone in the team can use it?

Also I tried using the side shop but the items I bought went to my stash and not my inventory directly. I could retrieve them at base. The side shop works like the base shop?

For the courier you simply buy it and use it inside your inventory thus deploying it on the game field. Everyone has access to it on your team. You can switch to the courier via hotkey or simply click on it to gain control of it.

As for the side shop the reason you were getting items at base is because the side shop does not have all the same items as the base shop so if you bought something at the side shop that it does not carry it will automatically buy that item at base, seeing as the base carries that item always, Same goes for the secret shop, there are items at the secret shop that the base nor side shop carry in stock. I'd recommend going into a custom game and visiting each shop and just familiarize yourself with the items it carries or just use the shops actual page to see. Using a quick item creator (right clicking on arcane boots) wont always work unless at the correct shop.

I tried to be thorough in my explanation but i may have confused you :P please ask for any clarification.

I think I understood: so basically the side shops offer just a couple of items but they show you all the items that are in the main shop. And if a shop doesn't have that item it goes into your stash so you can get it at the shop that has that item?.

And just a quick question, how do I give the items to my courier so it can bring the items to me?

Correct the bold sentence is the gist of the side shop.

You can drag and drop them or use the hotkey for grabbing items in stash and the hotkey for delivering all items in courier.
