I don't think anyone mentioned this yet: Support are often very squishy and usually have some game-breaking ulties (eg: Crystal Maiden, Lich) so it is necessary to position yourself correctly in team fights since you will be focused first, always stay as far back as possible and if you don't want to die in every team fight.

Never get angry if you die in a team fight very quickly, just throw your ult and run behind your carry/tank.

Oh and take extra care for your positioning if you have a channed ability Freezing Field, Death Ward etc.
