Hello guys, I am here to ask you a question.

So I never played DOTA before and I have NO CLUE what it's like. Any help?

Also, will the game be f2p? Can i get the official website?

I assume it's not going to be f2p but, we'll see....

I'm pretty sure the game won't be f2p due to the nature of games on this large of a scale, in general. If they do have a f2p version you'd probably have to earn your way for champions and they might have a purchasable version with all the heroes (like HoN).

Since it's Valve, it's probably going to be pay to play. Just because they have put so much PR with teasing and the $1m, they want to make as large as a profit as they can initially. Who knows, it might be fairly cheap with in-game purchasable items or it might run a system like TF2 where you have to buy the game or stuff from the shop to become a premium user.

There's no reason for the game NOT to be pay to play. It's got such a massive player base from the original and it already has an established competitive scene while it's unreleased - it's going to be huge and everyone knows this.

Hell, if you look at the main DotA community, playdota, they average like 13000 at any given moment. That might be like 50k unique visitors over a day. If all of those were to pay just %10 to get DotA2... that's $5m made already.

I think the game will work like all other games from Valve with a few new update exceptions; buy the game for $60, then all the micro transactions. I doubt the game will be pay to play because only hardcore players would be willing to pay money on a monthly basis for a game that hasn't even proven to be good (as of yet.)

As for DOTA experience I will recommend you try LoL or HoN, both are free and you have a couple of months to see if you even like the genre.

Hope this helps you out!

Oh, I didn't mean to say pay to play, I meant purchase to play.

Oops.

Took the words right out of my mouth. I highly recommend playing LoL(League of Legends) for some free2play experience. The game has subtle changes from the original Dota, but the concept is the same. Choose a hero, create a team, battle another team in the arena while collecting gold, items, and experience. The skill curve is HUGE so if you are really interested in paying for Dota2 get some experience with the MOBA genre.

Your thoughtful and logical arguments have convinced me.

I have HoN and LoL , and i must say that LoL is better for Newbies who want to know better the game mechanics etc.. HoN is more for advanced people, but try to figure it out by yourself... both are now Free to Play! :)
