Alright, so i am new, but at the same time, not new to Dota2. I have played somewhere in between 50-100 games ((spent 50ish hours according to steam)), but nothing besides bots, so i'm not trying to say im good. However, i have figured out most everything but ONE thing. Is there method to the madness, or do turrets just attack whatever they feel like?
Closest enemy unit or hero attacking a friendly hero with auto attack
Closest enemy unit or hero attacking the tower itself with auto attack
Closest enemy unit or hero attacking any friendly unit with auto attack
Closest enemy unit
Closest enemy catapult
Closest enemy hero
Hope this helps!
Also, there is a trick you should know. If a tower is currently attacking you, while pushing the tower for instance, instead of having to run outside its range, you can divert its aggro by attacking (a+left click) an ALLIED creep or hero. This can save you a lot of HP, and it's something that should become natural eventually.
Strange, i can't tell you how many times i'm simply hanging back as a ranged champ with minions in front of me attacking and the turret decides to just randomly attack me.

Most likely it's because an enemy wave of creeps comes by and so your creeps switch aggro, while you are left attacking the tower, so the tower switches aggro to you.
Never said in my post that i was attacking the turret or even minions, i meant literally just standing back, but who cares. What you said seems correct from what I've seen, with the rare occasion that it seems that a turret has a vendetta against me.

If you had attacked the turret at all and had stayed within acquisition range, even if you stopped attacking, you will still become part of the priority list.

He's doubting you because the mechanics are fairly straightforward. Include a replay ID and we can always check it out.
