I was looking up guides for heros I was playing yesterday and only a fraction of the ones that use to be posted were listed. There was even a couple heros that showed no guides for. I was searching without any filters of course. I noticed the site looks a little different too so there was obviously an update. My question is - what the hell happened to all the guides?

The easiest way to find the guide for the hero you are playing, is this :

For example, you're playing Drow Ranger, scroll down to the bottom of the page and click on Drow Ranger, then you can see all the guides written for them.

Don't quote me on this, but I believe that guides deemed unfit as guides were removed. The staleness filter is automatically set to fresh.

I've already expressed my distaste for the the use of freshness as a filter so yeah....

Most of the guides people use (mainly because they don't require updates very often) are now expired. The owners of said guides will now have to edit them and publish those changes in order to have them show in the listings.

You can get around this by searching for expired guides however the vote system was far superior as a filter as people don't vote trash guides usually.

The freshness is broken. You add like 1 sentence and its counted as fresh. I added about 5 words to my ogre guide and it was on top of the list.

This is good though if the guide isn't actually stale. Freshness rating sucks, seriously. It should only apply to guides that ACTUALLY aren't relevant anymore.
