I have HoN and LoL , and i must say that LoL is better for Newbies who want to know better the game mechanics etc.. HoN is more for advanced people, but try to figure it out by yourself... both are now Free to Play! :)
greetz
Exactly. HoN is much better for advanced players, but playing LoL will introduce you to the general MOBA mechanics. Personally I enjoy LoL more, but its a matter of taste. Also I feel LoL does a better job of easing you into the fray, instead of dropping you in the deep end.
LoL and Dota is completly diffrent games in a genre... It is like saying you shuld play Call of duty if you wanna get into Battle field because it is more noob friendly?

You play a shooter to learn shooter mechanics. Regardless of the two games differences they still share the same controls and basic objectives. Your personal opinion on which is better has nothing to do with learning the skill curve. Playing LoL is a watered down version of dota to a point, but if you haven't played any MOBA's starting with LoL isn't a bad idea.
HoN will prepare you more for DotA than League will. Sure some mechanics are the same (like the principle of dodging skills and last hitting / awareness) but a lot of the mechanics are much more harsher in DotA (denying, couriers, runes, CC/Damage amounts) that you only get a true preperation from playing DotA itself or HoN.
If you're good at League of Legends, you may have some of the basics down, but you still would need to learn a lot.

I'm not a big fan of HoN, I like how smooth LoL is though. I've got a ton of experience with the original DOTA so I should be fine. I must say though that S2 did an awesome job with the flamboyant voice pack. n1 :D
Dota (WC3 mod) is the mother of HoN and LoL. LoL is said to be based off -em dota, as you spend less time laning, the towers are weaker etc. LoL is by far the most newbie friendly of the three but it plays much more differently to dota than HoN does. For example in LoL, mages/casters scale into late game, while in Dota they become weaker in lategame since you cannot improve their ability damage
HoN is almost exactly the same as Dota. It has the majority of the same heroes with the same abilities, and many of the same items. It is also seen as to be more advanced than LoL.
All in all both are f2p, and I recommend started playing LoL than onto HoN to learn more about last hitting and denying (last hitting is very easy in LoL)

This is all true.
Basic mechanics transfer over, but learning how to build entirely new characters off of a different ability scale is suuuper confusing, do a bit of research before switching over to HoN

That's what I'm probably going to do. I'm currently playing LoL but since HoN is free, might as well download it and try to get some harsher experience to get used to it. RotT is also a MOBA game, why not try that?
