I signed-up on Steam's free Dota 2 invite but I was tired of waiting for it so I searched for an extra beta key among my friends and fortunately a friend of mine gave one of his. But just two days ago (approximately two weeks since sign-up) the Dota 2 invite from Steam arrived and now I do not know what to do with it. Will it be wasted like that?

You can give the code it says to someone else. If they type it in instead of you, I'm fairly certain it'll still work. However, Valve might've made it so that only you can redeem it.
