I've always wanted to try out Visage, but I've never gathered the courage to do so due to my fear of micro. How long did it take you to get used to controlling the familiars and dominated units effectively? Have you practiced playing vs. bots or just trial and error in normal/ranked matches?

Micro definitely does take a little bit to get used to, if you are pretty new at it I'd suggest just skipping the Helm of the Dominator and getting comfortable with Birds only for a few games. That's what I did, I think I started using Helm around about 11 games in, and by around game 20 I was pretty comfortable. You can also try reducing the amount of Micro by prioritizing wolves and catapults.
I never played Visage against any bots, just played unranked for practice then eventually moved into ranked at about game 45. Spamming Visage got me from Ancient 3 - Ancient 7 very quickly.
