What does Base Attack Time (BAT) mean?
I saw it mentioned under Alchemist's Ult and lycanthrope's Summon Wovles skill
I feel like I'm OK at Dota but I feel something's missing.
Got like 250 played and W/L at like 46% (off the top of my head)

BAT is the amount of time your hero would take to attack if it had no additional attack speed. Most heroes have a BAT of 1.7, but there are exceptions to that rule. It also determines how an increased attack speed (IAS) affects your hero. The formula for this is as follows:

Attacks per second = (100 + IAS)/(BAT * 100)

Roughly, this means that heroes with a better (lower) BAT scale better with attack speed than those without one. For example, with 100 IAS, Anti-Mage with his 1.45 BAT will get about 1.379 attacks per second. In comparison, the typical hero with 1.7 BAT will only get about 1.176 attacks per second with the same IAS.

It's just the attack speed the hero starts with. Simple as that.

But aren't there heroes with a lot of agility such as riki compared to heroes with a little bit of agility like tiny? Or is it all the same at level one?

No, they don't have the same attack speed, it's also based on their Agility, every point of Agility means 1% attack speed if I'm right.

the hero's agility and BAT put into the formula gives their attack speed. if tiny and riki have the same BAT and riki has more agility at lvl, riki will attack faster. however attack animations also play a part in attack speed.
