What, no rapiers? Any Chen player who knows anything about anything knows to get six rapiers.

Hello,
The way you think is imo wrong i'll explain you why :)
Lets start from the begining:
Why do you pick chen?
The answer is easy because it allows you to push early and gain an easy gold + map control advantage early for the team. And because his heals can turn a fight around.
You say go for other skills. Well i must say sir you are completly wasting hero potential.
Creeps dont scale well in late game, but they are very strong early mid game, there goes no point in wating to get to 3 creeps since you can have 3 extra stunns or more pushing power.
creeps provide you auras wich is beneficial for pushes.
If you cant micro properly you should be playing chen imo.
next skill is test of faith that should be maxed asap. If you play organised games you probably have a to save you carry from sticky situations that cool down reduction is what may change the outcome of the game.
Since chen is very item independant and you get a very large bunch of gold ( you should be pushing since you are lvl 5 and have 2 creeps ) you might have the fastest meckanism in the game by far ( i usually get it like 8 min with basil) an early mek makes you pushes very easy since you have the armor stacked on you creeps and team ( basil + mek) + the very usefull auras for you and your team

boots are definitly arcane, since your not gonna carry the game anyways, get it for your team, and chen is very mana intensive with mekanism + you can give you creeps mana wich means they can do more slows stuns or nets.

the best extension after that is definitly drums as you say you are squishi addistional hp and mana is a must. The chen huge weakness is that he is close to no mobility map awarness is key, understanding the oposing team movements and predict pushes and gangs is what makes a good chen player ( micro obviously ***well ) but drums help you crepps or team to catch up with runing away enemys and providing you aura

Aghanims : well i used to get it before yes it is not so bad,
but there is a problem , 30 sec cooldown well it doesnt seem much , but you cant get it twice in a teamfight so it makes it rather useless if you survive to heal another time , i bet there is no one left to heal or you won the teamfight and in this case mek is the better choice to transit to a push since the ult takes a lot of mana.

Very underated item on chen is vladimir. yes . it helps your team push and provide usefull aura to your melee teammates. and you can make it from basil.
so lets see : Arcane Meks drums vlads + creeps aura like regen or as or dmg with the wolf
the benefit is that all you items and creeps provide aura wich benefits your team

Well warding is obvious even you shouldt be focusing on it . the other support should be warding since you need your items asap so you can dominate the game.
after mek + arcane you can switch back to warding and let your other support get some needed items. ( he will get it anyways since your are taking towers)

Lategame: if you still playing as chen at 45 min mark: trust me game will be hard xD
but the best extenstion i can think of is hex or ghost scepter if your facing physical dmg dealers

Gameplan goes like this :
1. buy wards clarity's and i start with the ring of protection. Deward the blocking wards.
2. at 0.30 start with the big cam get a creep kill the camp.
3. at 0.53 stack the small camp or both the small and the big one if you can micro :)
4. kill those 2 if you get a tornado creep
5. at lvl 3 if you get a centaur/troll go to easy or mid to get fb. with 2 lvl test of faith should be a kill if your mates help you with a slow or a stun.
6. return to jungle and get lvl 5
7. take 2 creeps go push the easy lane tower. ( you should have your boots basil mek when your done)
8. then go mid take mid tower
9. go bot take tower.
10. get rosh or keep pushing ( up to you ^^)
then you just play ^^
you should have gold advantage + map control . easy win if your carry dont fail ^^

Sorry for my bad english. Hope this helps ^^

Really? Chen is a support. I play a lot of Chen. If they are bursting me down, thats perfect. That means they aren't paying attention to the Alch who is wiping half their team. Mek for healing, Hand of God for healing. Ring gives armour, mek gives armour and regen. Pipe gives more regen.
And don't max holy persuasion? It's his signature spell. Play Invoker but don't get invoke because then you have to remember spells. Play pudge but don't bother with hook cause it's hard to land.

"B-but mekans is bad because it doesn't do damage!"

But seriously now, this is a horrible guide and I realy hope no one actually follows it.

This guide is 100% wrong. Assuming you're any good at the game you should not be getting stats over holy persuasion, even a higher level nuke is pretty much always bad.

Also, mek+mana boots are too good not to get. Also, the whole point of chen is to prevent you/allies from getting burst down via mek+hand of god.

It's only suicidal if your enemies actually focus you instead of all your damage-dealing teammates. Moreover, you should be away from the front of the fight, where you can use your heals (ult, mekansm) and teleport safely (if you need to get your carry or someone out of there). Your enemies are either forced to let your damage dealers work them while they try to chase for you away from the front line. Chen is a support hero, and uses a lot of mana, and therefore is a very good candidate for using Arcane Boots.

I completely agree with you with the playstyle. That is why i don't want mek on Chen. Mek has a pretty small radius and requires you to be in the middle of battle. But there's one thing i disagree with. Seriously, supports are always the first target in teamfights, especially Chen with heal and can teleport heroes away. If you don't get tanky items, Chen will have below 1000 health for most of the game, and it only takes 3 nukes to demolish that. It is no hassle at all to focus Chen first.

And Mek is just too damn good NOT to get on Chen.

As explained before, mana boots + Mek will lead you straight into a mid game with below 1000 HP. That is more or less suicidal, unless you're overleveled because of good ganking. Mek can change the tide of a teamfight, but it's better used for heroes with no need of a stat boost.

Incredibly meager guide. Hardly goes into how to use Chen's abilities or anything.
