I rush Yasha and then Sange on this hero. The haste means you crit more. The movement speed means you catch anyone you want AND it makes sure you escape because few people will be running as fast as you.

Skull Basher is arguably more effective than Sange and Yasha on Phantom Assassin for nearly 1500 less gold. And that's without even considering it's late game potential as Abyssal Blade.

OK guys you convinced me about BKB. I have put it as a replacement for Poor Man's shield in the final build and you buy it before Assault, right after Skull Basher.

Glad we could agree on that. As a rule of thumb, if BKB isn't listed as a core item on Mortred then it's probably a bad guide.

I'd say 95% of games.

You cannot do damage whilst CC'd or dead.

BKB does -
  • Stopps Blademail damage, hence countering a counter for her
  • Stops big ults like Finger of Death or Laguna Blade from almost one shotting her, meaning she can kill them before the invulnerability wears off
  • Stops CC, meaning she can do damage and zip in, out and around team fights with her blink
  • Gives her a little bit of much needed health. Damage isn't too bad either

Unless they have little to no magic damage or basically no CC or potential Sheepstick holders (which is extremely, extremely rare) then you should buy BKB on her.

80% was indeed a bit generous.

Surviving != doing damage, being CC'd kills this hero. I'd estimate that Black King Bar is necessary in like, 80% of games on Phantom Assassin.

I think if they don't have many stuns then BKB is not necessary. With Assault Cuirass and 35% Evasion you can survive in the heat of the battle. Also I mentioned that you shall not jump 1st in a battle. Usually when you jump in, most enemies have already cast their stuns.

BKB is a must have item for mortred.
Nice explanations the rest of the guide is reasonable, also some informations are lacking.
