When you look up the definition of Illuminate. there is what you find...

1. make (something) visible or bright by shining light on it; light up.
"a flash of lightning illuminated the house"
Similar:

2. help to clarify or explain.
"placing the events of the 1930s in a broader historical context helps to illuminate their significance"

It's so obvious how the complete definition is not taken in to consideration with the ability and its shortcoming of mass wasted mana and time...

If only the ability "helped to clarify or explain" to the ally WHICH DIRECTION THEY SHOULD RUN IN WHEN RUNNING FROM THE OPPONENT in order to cause the opponent to take the damage of illuminate or even for the ally to receive its healing.... and I'm not saying it has to be arrow directions or anything but rather "lit up paths" so the ally has a clue on which direction to run then maybe this spell would not be so bad.
