Valve Announces DOTA2 1 Million Dollar Tournament!

Valve sets a New Records for many competitive tournament stats, most noteably largest single tournament prize ever at 1 million dollars for 1st place.

By bringing the worlds most elite players together to compete for $1,000,000 is sure draw immense attention in the MOBA world. Everyone will be wishing they had a seat for this historic event!

There will be 16 teams competing from a wide variety of countries, including France, China, Ukraine, Thailand and more.

The $1m prize for 1st place is still higher than the $5m pool RIOT has going on for League of Legends. The $1m is for this tournament and is a winner-takes-all situation, where as RIOT's $5m is for the entire competitive season. It's going to be spread over a lot of tournaments so the highest prize is still going to be lower than DotA2's.

I'm just posting this before some people go on about how RIOT have one upped Valve, which has been said a lot on /v/ and playdota.

They are League of Legends teams.. I'm sure none of them would be able to compare to any of those lined up for this tournament, even if some of them are avid DotA players. These are the teams who play in WCG tournaments and usually win. I'm sure one of those teams, the name who slips my mind, has been bought by a chinese company for $6.2million USD, just because of how good they are and how popular the game is going to be.

If a league of legends team gets bought for $6.2million USD... well then, I'd like to see them enter!

Basic concepts will transfer over but overall the players from one game can't compare to the players from another game because they're two completely different games.

Well that was sort of the point I was getting across - you shouldn't really expect League tournament players to be in a DotA tournament. Just two completely different games.

It may be so, but if you look at the backgrounds of all these players then you'll see that all of them have been hardcore DOTA fans since it's initial release, that's what is confusing for me. Do you see what my point is?

I see what Sever1ty is saying, but I'd love to see some LoL players come over to DotA2 and try it out. For a LoL player myself right now, I think it's gonna be pretty hard to transition over to DotA2 since it has different mechanics. As for the tournament, I'm rooting for Mineski.Infinity. Go Philippines!

I agree with you, I'm actually downloading HoN even though I hate the game, I'm going to buy the Anonymous avatar, and flamboyant voice pack and straight to learning. I need to be average at the game by the time DOTA 2 comes out. Hopefully I haven't forgotten much since DOTA 1.
