Gruthkul is despair personified, a tanky behemoth who protects her team and capitalizes on their damage. Her Despair aura is the crux of her potential, making it much harder for enemies to turn around the tide of battle. Black Heart can not only shield an ally from harm but also cripple enemies around it, rewarding proper selection and timing with clutch counters. Desecrate gives her powerful teamfight control while lessening the enemy’s ability to control her, allowing the Mother to continually wreaking havoc. While Gruthkul herself has little damage, a well-aimed Broken Faith allows her team to maximize their damage as well as counter passive-reliant heroes. Save allies, create space for them to strike back thus protecting them more, a horrifying pattern to play against.
Broken Faith’s health percentage manipulation allows Despair take effect more easily (See below for more information). Black Heart and Desecrate offer simple yet strong disabling potential, especially when chained together well, so good positioning and timing will help make the most of her kit. Healing and mobility are her weaknesses. Aside from having neither herself, healing counters Despair and Broken Faith quite well and high mobility allows enemies to keep out of her ranges. The latter usually forces her to engage with Black Heart, not the worst thing in the world but it does diminish her defensive capabilities in a pinch.
Numerical example to explain Broken Faith:
Enemy starts at 900/1000 health = 90%
Level 1 Broken Faith is cast and lowers it to 720/800 = 90%
They take 120 damage and lowers it to 600/800 = 75%
Broken Faith ends and it returns to 750/1000 = 75%
So instead of taking just 120 damage, they really take 150
So instead of ending up at 78% health, they really end up at 75%
