I play LoL, so I know something... about LoL

1- Could you tell me about the community of DOTA? (Like comparing to LoL)
2- Sorry for my stupid question, but DOTA 2 is free and for everyone? Or I need a key?
3- Update me in terms used in DOTA that are different or doesn't exist on LoL
4- How constantly is DOTA 2 updated?
5- Is there something I should know? Advice, tips, things that aren't obvious, the current meta...

Oh, and I know that pudge can pull like blitzcrank :D At least I got something to start :P

Hi there,

It's alright a lot of Dota 2 players are migrating from LoL for one reason or another so you'll find a lot of players in your situation!

1- The community in Dota... it can go either way really, back when I played WC3 Dota it was terrible. You just didn't talk ESPECIALLY of you were doing badly. Though in Dota 2 you see more people giving out advice but then you still have the guys that will rage at the drop of a hat. It goes from game to game but I would say overall we have a good community.

2- It will be free to play for everyone with a similar model as LoL (Micro-transactions in the shop) but as it is currently in Beta you will need a beta key to get in. You can sign up for a chance at a free key here or purchase an item bundle with a key for you and a friend here.

3- I would suggest looking at Atlas' Beginners Guide to Dota. Small list of things, Denying your own creeps to delay enemy farm, Better fog of war/no brush, no recall or summoner spells and the list goes on!

4- We usually have updates weekly but as we just had The International 2 the updates were stopped to maintain a strong bug-free tournament version.

5- Do your research and if you do get a key stick at it. Some people will not take kindly to new players but in this genre of gaming you get that everywhere. You will not become a good player over the course of a few weeks or even a couple of months. Dota 2 takes practice and developed skill.

I look forward to seeing you around and let us know here if you get a key! Welcome aboard :)

Thx bro :D

2- Ok, did it right now ^^

3- I just read that guide, my head kinda hurts '-' But I got almost everything, because I've already watched videos of a youtube gamer of my country... I'm aware of the runes, understood pretty much everything... LoL gives a good base... I'll have to learn about every champion now and itens! (so much things '-')... For what I can see the META is the same thing, but DOTA doesn't have an full AP nuker like we would have in LoL? The guide said something like it, but I didn't got 100%

4- Great :D

When I get into the game I'll come back to report my first impression, new doubts and ask for tips since I'll know more... practice > theory ^^

Oh, and I know that one champion walk under the ground, and another can stun using a scroll to smash the ground '-'

And as DOTA 2 don't have "Recall button" how do I go back? walking? or there's an item to substitute the button? It has only one use?
How does the money works? Like in LoL? 10 to 18k gold in a long game, the "ultimates" items are around 3k gold?

Not sure about the underground one off the top of my head. The one that stuns might be Earthshaker? Using a totem to stun?

You buy a Town Portal Scroll, they are consumeable (1 use for 135g) but think of it as the Teleport summoner spell on a shorter cooldown.

LoL gives you more gold per creep, you still gain 1g per second after the game starts. Average game at the end will have with with around 9-18k gold Depending on your role, how your team distributed farm/kills, how many times you died and whether you were in teamfights for assists.

Remember: Deaths cost you gold and exp in Dota!

Yes, and the one who walsk under the ground, it is an ability who makes him do it, ultimate, IDK

Isn't that expansive? :O

Yeah, I read that, got my interest on this, on the theory it would make me and my teammates less cocky... What about boots? Same as LoL? essentials for everyone?

The teleport scrolls aren't as expensive as you might think. If you aren't too keen on buying Town Portal Scrolls you can opt in for Boots of Travel for 2500 gold which provides a high move speed bonus and the ability to teleport as you would with Town Portal Scrolls. And yes it is considered essential to have boots, well that's my own opinion anyway.

Last hitting is muuch more important in Dota than in LoL. It's much harder, so you can't auto attack and expect to get any last hits. It is also more rewarding; they give ~50 gold per last hit compared to LoL's ~30.

To buy things, use the courier. It is an animal you control to bring stuff to you. Do not walk back to base or TP just to buy things.

I read about farming being more important ^^ I think this is very good...

In LoL I already know I shouldn't right click and sit :D But I'm not a pro farmer like an AD carrier need to be... imagine it on DOTA :/

I like tankier roles or that "OMG THANKS YOU SAVED ME" role (support), on LoL they're the jungler and top laner, and the support on bot... Usually tanks/bruisers or healers

Do Dota2 have leveling? What do I earn from it? (IDK if I wrote it right, I'm not 100% in english) (and I'm saying about something like runes, masteries and sumonners spells, I know DOTA2 don't have it, but it have something to replace it? or the levels don't interfere in nothing?)

The max level in DotA 2 is 25 not like 18 on League of Legends.

Also, we don't have rune pages or masteries, instead, a rune respawns on the river each 2 minutes, giving you Double Damage/Haste/Illusions/Invisibility or Regeneration.

It has leveling, you can level up your 'account' with 1000 Battle Points per level, and when you level up, you win an item 100% that you can use on your heroes.

You can get random items at the end of each game, but if you level up, there's a chance of 100% of getting one.

Hmm, Items to use on my heroes? Like I can begin the game with already something? ;o

And what about the creeps, how they're called in DotA 2? Creep? Minion?
I can deny the kill of my enemy, doing what? attacking my own creep? I can do this even if he is 100% hp? o.o
There's something similar to red/blue buff and smite?
I read I can deny towers too, same thing as creeps? Can I deny the enemy from getting the kill of an ally?
